what i would do: (well kind of what i have done.. and i like my idea)
get the sx
you already have a microkorg for synth sounds...
you could load in any sample you want for drums sounds/sound effects/anything into the sx
and program up your beats rather than be limited to the built in drum sounds on the mx
then... (fun part.. and can be done with either 'tribe)
connect your microkorg to the midi output on your electribe
the sx has 2 monophonic "keyboard parts"
usually you would use the esx's samples as the source and program bass/lead lines/whatever parts and it would transpose pitched samples like a keyboard to play the corresponding notes.
eg. bass sample -> program basslines
but you can control your microkorg
and use the sequencer of the electribe controlling the sounds on the mk.
the built in 'tribe arpeggiator is pretty fun too
a little bizarre but it works
the keyboard parts are only monophonic,
but the microkorg has a max of 4 notes anyway.
and if you want to fiddle a bit by using both keyboard parts simultaneously you can get duophonic action happening
you could also play with the mk keyboard anytime you want of course.
basically i want my tribe to sort my drums, bass and a synth line
so i can jam along live with a keyboard
just waitin for exams to be over so i can spend more time with it

note: you can control your microkorg with an emx as well
i believe it has more keyboard parts (5?) tho i'm not sure
you'd gain the option of an extra synth engine
i havnt used it so not sure how it rates
and its already nicely integrated
but the main difference is you cant change beyond the factory chosen drum samples, which may or may not be to your taste

I just do not want the same drums for every single song without adding some special touches with symbols, claps, accents, etc. I do not need dramatically different drumming for my needs, but drumming that does not necessarily sound replicated all of the time. Does this make any sense? Does the SX-1 still have enough synthparts built into it so it is not based solely on creating drums? Also, where do I get these drumming and other samples because I want to solely make music with one of these machines with added guitar/vocals once transferred onto my computer.

well if you want to add special touches to your drums
and not use the same drums for every song..
i think the sx is the way to go
the sx doesn't have synth capabilites
though you can load in synth samples and play melodies with them
and run it through the sx filters and fx
or you could use it as a sequencer for your microkorg

or you can try create your own drum sounds with the mx synth engine..
which may or may not be good
i havn't played with one so i dont know
but i have heard synths makes some mean kick drums and rhythmic sound fx
but i'd rather use samples,
i can always turn those synth made sounds into samples too.
