I am not a flamer. I just want to give my opinion that's all. I went to the Guitar Center today and tried the M3 and the Micro-X, Triton Extreme and [Triton TR.

Micro-X, Triton Extreme and TR sounded phatter and juicier than the dull sounding M3. M3 had slightly improved guitar/piano/acoustics over the Triton Extreme but not near as good as Motif XS.
I think its really just preference. I was having a conversation with a Korg rep just the other day, explaining why I initially liked my M3 better than my Oasys.

The primary reason is the acoustic pianos. The M3 pianos sound better than the Oasys pianos. In fact, I think the TR pianos sound better than the M3 pianos. He said that he received the same feedback from several other people. I really don't think the quality is worse, just the amount of effort applied to the factory patches. Unfortunately, this is what usually sells the instrument.

You do know that YOU can change the sounds and apply additional effects to get the sound you want, right? ;-) I wouldn't pass over a good keyboard just because you are unimpressed by the factory data. Try tweaking it before you make your decision. Most places will let you play with the thing for hours if they think you are going to buy it.

I just picked up a Micro-X last week.....great price. Anyway, I'd have to say it has more exciting and useable combis "out of the box" versus the M3. Now before anyone starts throwing things--I still prefer the M3 for most of my compositions, but the programming in the Micro-X is amazing, even without KARMA.

That's obviously due to the fact that the Triton samples and sounds have been around for a long time and Korg's programmers have done more with them. (I have a Triton Classic and many of the Micro-X programs and combis are more complex).

Having said that.....I wish Korg would release some new combis for the M3. Please. :D
