Hello, I tend to tweak the programs on my X5D and use them in combi's, the sound editor program makes all this pretty easy. I heavily program the Micron. As for soft synths I program and save patches for most of them except Atmosphere where I just layer presets.
Cheers.

And you don't have all this time?
I think that you can improve your skill in many years.

I use presets

.
I've been trying to do some programming with the Virus but I found the whole process boring and not very rewarding...
I tweak the effects but nothing more.

Hmmmm, I'd love to have a Virus. Don't give up though; it's worth the effort.

Yes, the Virus sounds excellent but its modulation matrix is as complex as a warp drive lol..
Being on sick leave, I have plenty of time to keep experimenting with all those knobs.... and watch my favourite Star Trek episodes on DVD
BTW: how do you like your Ion?

I love the ION.....it's a breeze to program. I haven't gotten into all its idiosyncrasies yet, but that will come in time. Looking forward to taking it out on the road.
and watch my favourite Star Trek episodes on DVD
One of my favorite pastimes as well.....especially now that the prices have dropped on those sets!

Most of the time a create my own sounds from scratch because synths have now complex matrix modulation.
I have to check, when i edit preset, what modulation is linked to and it takes some time.
And i think starting from scratch is a good way too understand how your synth is working...
But i have to admit using some presets sometimes !
If a preset is good, it is good !!
