A grain shifter records a very small sample of a sound and loops it over and over. A good example of this is in the first Matrix movie, when Neo takes the red pill and screams as he leaves the matrix for the first time.

what? i know this isn't your fault, but do you know the reasoning behind this decision? i guess you could play a KO with KP3, but i'd rather be able to play it with a keyboard without a complicated MIDI patch in between!

After recording loop, and then changing tempo, it is possible to correct pitch with the effect, if your ear is sharp enough.

It would be super if KOpro and KP3 would do that on the fly.

Unfortunately we can't go too deep into the design choices, but suffice it to say it's not a simple function to implement. As I've mentioned before, every added feature costs a huge amount in development resources, as well as processing power.

We definitely hear you, though, and weunderstand your desire for this feature. You can consider it added to our internal user wishlist. :)

This is possible on the KP3, but once a loop is recorded on the KOPro, the only way to change the pitch is to alter the tempo.

this could be a deal breaker for me, I already have a Kaossilator, that combined with my KP3 will probably do just fine then, looks like I won't have to fork out another £300.

Remember that when you're sequencing, this limitation goes away. Nearly all commercial sequencers will record and play back MIDI CC data. Just press record on the sequencer, play the KOPro the way you normally would, and then play it back. In addition to hearing the performance played back, You'll even see the X/Y pad light up to show you what you recorded.

I made a post a few pages back with a theory I had as to why midi note control will only exist for external mode only. Anyhow the fact that midi note control is not available in standard (global) mode is critical to your inquiry.

The bottom line is this:

Since the KOpro is not configured to be sending midi note info out in standard (global) mode then there is no way it will receive controller midi note info to allow you to treat the KOpro like a sound module and thus use an external controller to control the sounds.

The lack of midi note control in the global mode can also be because of how the synth is played. When playing with your finger you can do certain glide stuff is some of the patches and then the kaossilator snaps to the nearest note when you stop (or at least thats my impression when trying out the kaossilator). That might tell that the synth is indeed internally controlled by the "pad touch" and x/y control codes.

This is just guessing.

That's a major deal breaker. Definitely won't be buying this unless/until it can receive note messages.

Alright Rich, thanks a lot for your answers. I'll agree it's a bit sad that the Kaoss Pro can't be played from a keyboard but since this isn't meant to be a sound module I can understand. For me it would have been a nice bonus.

Hopefully this feature makes it into the next product revision.

I'm still looking forward to playing with one!

If you look closely at the KOPro, you'll notice that the GATE ARP button is in the same spot as the HOLD button on the KP3... That doesn't mean that the HOLD function is gone, we've just moved it to the SHIFT button instead.

This is very good news and the HOLD will probably be very handy with the GATE ARP.

Oh yeah, that's derfinately a cool effect :D
The inclusion of this set of audio effects certainly makes the deal a little sweeter for me.

Those effects are only for the external input sounds right? Not the internal KO sounds.
