I looked at his website recently and it seems he's working on more Yamaha soundsets. The Motif really nails that 80s stuff.bsbsantos wrote:I sent Rick an email last week asking if he was still working on this project to Kronos. All I got was an automatic reply. His site has been the same for a long time. I couldn't find any indication that he is working on a new Motif soundset.I looked at his website recently and it seems he's working on more Yamaha soundsets. The Motif really nails that 80s stuff.
From his reply I've got the idea that he is without time to do it
This is an automated response from rick@playkeyz.com. If you have ordered a soundset and have not yet received it, please allow a day or so. The files will be emailed to the paypal account you used to purchase the files.
If you are looking for programming, I am doing very little custom work at this time. If you are interested in custom work and am accepting some projects occasionally. Please send me another email if you are interested in custom work.
Thanks!
Rick
PS. I did send him another email and got the same auto reply.

I was talking about this part of his website...maybe he's not working on it anymore:

Erm... I have to amend my above post a little. A friend of mine is going to emigrate to Israel in the near future - yes, while a freaking WAR might be breaking out, but he has a daughter over there, and he's an odd Jewish guy to start with. In any case, he wants me to record and produce possibly his last album, and for some reason this is really tiring. But I feel like I owe it to the guy.
The second thing is that I completely forgot about our holidays, which are going to eat up a few days with extended family festivities. So it might be a bit on this. While I really dig the heck out of programming, it's also basically a lot of data entry which numbs my brain unless I have a full tank of testosterone, which lately I don't.
So while I do intend to whip up a good bunch of patches, don't expect them this weekend. I'm not sure when they'll be ready, so just be a little patient.

I just wanted to make a quick update to this thread since I got a couple of PMS about it. While I haven't quite been hella busy, I am hella tired. And lazy. I'll see if I can get in some programming time in-between stuff this next week. In the meantime, if you guys have specific requests you want to make in here, it would be helpful because... face it, there are a bazillion neato sounds on scads of albums, and I need a 40 hour day as it is.

PRAY FOR THIS PLANET!!
While anything from the 70's and/or 80's would be greatly appreciated, I would specifically like to get my hands on patches for the following:
She Blinded Me with Science - Thomas Dolby
Tom Sawyer - Rush
Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Just What I Needed - The Cars
Any and all Pink Floyd and Journey sounds!
I've been working on mastering the Kronos, but I've only had it for a couple of weeks...so I have a LONG way to go! I have a few sounds that I'm happy with so far, and will gladly share them after a little more tweaking (and after I have enough patches to make it worth everyone's download time). In the mean time, pulling apart and analyzing patches provided by others really helps me come to grips with all of the possibilities inherent in this amazing synth!
I have my credit card loose in the holster and am ready to pay handsomely for "famous" classic synth patch collections!

I wanted to make a heads up on this thread again, because I love programming and all, but even with a touch screen, this is tedious work. And too much like data entry. In other words, it tends to put me to sleep these days.
And I've been fighting the bloody beast, trying to figure out ways to kill effects with controllers so I can reduce things to fewer patches, but so far the thing has been resisting my efforts. So I've resorted to making a few duplicates with variations like phaser, chorus and the like.
What I'd like to know is how soon some of you URGENTLY need these sounds. I can offer a partial set in a few days, and then a full bank or two that will hopefully be worth your money, for those who are willing to pay. I know one of our friends from Down Under needs a Divinyl "Science Fiction" lead patch by the end of the month, which fortunately I've finished. I only have about twelve patches done so far, unfortunately mostly strings and such for the Jupiter, ARP and Oberheim, but I'm going back at it for a while tonight and hope to get some brass, pads, leads, bases and other cool bits before I begin tackling the more song specific stuff like Pete Townshend's Baba O'Riley organ. I'm planning on quite a plethora of patches from the 70s on up.
I know what you guys mean when you began grouching for these sounds, and I'm surprised that the KORG team hadn't done an alternate set of vintage keys and synth banks. I'm also unhappy that the Kronos doesn't have a "Load Bank to XX Bank" command! Bad oversite there, guys. I guess I'll have to get that music computer built and install that librarian...

synthguy, perhaps it would be useful for yourself to start with half a dozen or a dozen sounds, with clearly defined and named vintage models/songs in mind, put them up as demo on Korgpatches and get some feedback in this forum.
I guess that's better than working on your own for months, without being sure how many people want to use and perhaps buy what of your patches. If you make it a long loneley project, you will soon lose fun in programming.
Perhaps you just start with something you would like to use yourself?

I don't need no steenking feedback! No, honestly I think my programming chops are fine. I just need to take the time necessary to do it. It won't take months to do, unless I get all my free time taken away, which I'll resist with every fiber of my being.
And indeed, I am programming a bunch of sounds I'll be using myself in my music, along with the song specific stuff. I figure that if people are willing to send me some hard earned monies, they should be getting more than 20 patches, so I want at least a bank full of goodies. My intention as I did on another forum with another beleaguered synth is to provide some patches reminiscent of vintage synths of yore, with their characteristic leads, key sounds and pads. Maybe some basses too, since there is a call for Taurus bass pedals. Since people here seem to be kind of picky on that ubiquitous sound, I might pass on that, but we'll see. There are tons of synth basses on the Kronos already.
On the vintage patches, I'd think they would have whipped up a bank or two of them in the EXi vein. They do have some, but they're kind of scattered here and there among numerous banks, and really, there aren't enough of them.SanderXpander wrote:How do you mean?know what you guys mean when you began grouching for these sounds, and I'm surprised that the KORG team hadn't done an alternate set of vintage keys and synth banks. On "Load Bank to XX Bank," right now the only way I can figure out to load patches where I want is to open a folder and start loading them one by one, which takes an exasperating amount of time to complete, even loading "multiples."

synthguy, and others who are or are considering programming some classic synth sounds and making them available to us.. THANK YOU!!!!!
I'm not much of a synth programmer but, I certainly appreciate those of you who do this, and are generous enough to share the patches with others..
I just downloaded the "Jump" synth sound (we had a request to perform this tune for a performance last weekend) and got the program from the Korg website and it was awsome!!! Every one of these classic sounds that comes available is just one more great song that I can perform with my Classic Rock Band.
I'm very much interested in all the ELP, Who, Edgar Winter (frankenstein/free ride) sounds, and anything else from the mid 60's to the late 70's..
Thanks for your efforts!!! BTW maybe us guys who can't or don't have the time to program these sounds, can pay you guys back by sharing our performance techniques!!!
