Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
This update seems that is not down-gradable and if you try to reload back older OS v.3.1 this will destroy
Boot SSD system files , booting is searching 1 missing system file , you will never boot and you have to reload
Resources of Kronos DVDs ...
Loading back OS v.3.1 destroyed my Kronos 2 boot SSD and I was obliged to restore an older SSD image.
What was actually the reason I wanted to downgrade to older v.3.1 ? for very essential reason !
OS v.3.2.1 has significantly reduced User Ram from 1969 Mb to 1916 Mb , totally unacceptable , and my setup
KST file can't be anymore loaded since it does not fit ...
Just imagine that missing Ram of 53Mb is a custom 5 GB piano of 8 velocity layers in streaming mode from SSD...
There is no essential improvement in 3.2 compared to 3.1 , except factory stuff to support newer EXs ...
Owners of WavesArt Bundles , do not update to this version or any later OS where user Ram size is reduced until
confirmed that is back to at least 1960 Mb ... and certainly do not risk to load back v.3.1 and never boot again !

Re: Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
I own a new Kronos 3, (which I abbreviate as K3), so it is already running 3.2.1. Unfortunately, the amount of RAM taken up by the unzipped update isn't made public, so it is difficult to say if the new update is physically larger than the former one.

Actual Ram Size in any Kronos can be seen in Global/Preload page at the right side where total Ram is written.
In Kronos 3 & OS v.3.2.1 total Ram size is 1916 Mb (reduced by 53 Mb )
In Kronos 2 & OS v3.1.4 total Ram size is 1969 Mb
A custom Kronos 2 setup arround 1950 Mb of used Ram , that most power user have , can't be transferred in
Kronos 3 since a warning of not enough Ram will be announced when trying to load KST file ...

Re: Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
Yep, that confirms what I was pretty sure about. As I mentioned elsewhere, no thanks, no update for me. The only advantage I saw was to get the additional EXi EP-1 piano, but I am fine with the K2's EXi electric pianos and there is no way that I will downgrade my current 1960 Mb.
Re: Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
Not having any issues here with the update on my Kronos 2 and I have many very large customised preloads I use, maybe your preloads are just on the limit and yes upgrades to the OS can change the RAM available, just like on any computer when it gets updates where maybe more or less RAM is needed once booted up.
The issue with downgrading was made clear on the download page for the V3.2.1 update it even has a warning stating the issue you find yourself in. I would have just adjusted the preloads you had to use slightly less RAM than go threw this headache of reinstalling via DVDs but as you bricked it now doing a OS downgrade the only way to recover it now is by doing the DVD restore or if you have a image/drive backup restore from there, sadly.
What you could do also is stick the SSD into a computer with Linux or an OS that reads Linux drives and take off any of your work before restoring it with the DVDs or a backup image/drive, so not to lose any of your saved work on the main boot drive of the Kronos.
Sorry to hear you are going threw this, but that was a time to make sure to RTFM moment if you know what I mean.

Re: Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
I personally have no issue , it was just 10 minutes to restore image and some more minutes to copy extra
contents in HD folder of ext partition , you see , I boot from external boot SSD from added mSATA port on case ...
It's mostly that I did not expect that after more of 20 years of using Korg OS updates , I just upgraded , found it insane
to loose a custom 5GB piano for instance and downgraded at once , never had seen that warning ...
After Kronos OS v.1.x , OS is always bigger but available Ram size was always increased until now , so no excuses !
The problem is that WavesArt K2/X customers that own K2 EXS bundles of 17 & 21 GB with over 1950 Mb of Ram of fixed
custom resources , if upgrade to this s**t OS , then their KSC file will fail to be loaded due to user insufficient memory
and they can't downgrade anymore ...
So once again , WavesArt owners of 3 vast EXs Bundles , DO NOT UPGRADE TO OS v.3.2.1

Re: Kronos 2/X Users BeWare of new Kronos OS v3.2.1
For those who did not really understood the meaning of this topic ...
Kronos OS v.3.2.1 works fine as Kronos 3 , no one said that end users will face any issues !
The important flaw for power users and developers is the reduction of Ram size from 1969 Mb to 1916 Mb
which is very important for power users and custom samples , and this briefly means that an EXs library
will be unavailable to be installed because of missing 53 Mb of Ram.
This Ram reduction info should had been clearly provided since if update , there is no revert option to previous state ...
In my opinion do not update to this until Ram will return to previous state of 1969 Mb.
Hope this helps

Mine is at 1922MB after the v3.2.1 upgrade. So it may be slightly different for everyone.AntonySharmman wrote: ↑Wed Oct 29, 2025 9:24 pm The important flaw for power users and developers is the reduction of Ram size from 1969 Mb to 1916 Mb

At any , Kronos 1 with added Ram , Kronos X and Kronos 2 , under best OS 3.1.2 , after clearing Ram or loading
in clear mode , Ram is exactly 1969 Mb , I have personally loaded over 20 various Kronos with WavesArt resources.
