Input 1 and input 2 going to same external synth as stereo?

hi,
I was wondering if I sent my input 1 and input 2 to the left and right output of an external synth, would that synth play in stereo, if the r3 oscs on both timbres were respectively set to each input? For example would panning assigned to an lfo, be heard on the left and right, using the external synth as both inputs?

Not sure if I'm explaining this right, but I was hoping to have an external synth to have stereo capability even though I can't get a left and right into my mixer. I wanted to try it via the r3s two inputs.

Most mixers will handle stereo signals, provided they have a stereo output. Simply send the left channel audio to one mixer channel, and pan it hard left, and send the right channel audio to another mixer channel, and pan it hard right. To preserve the stereo field, the level controls of both of those two channels will have to be moved together. Some mixers have dedicated stereo paths, using two channels internally, but a common level control.

Sending an external synth's Left and Right stereo outputs to the R3's Input 1 and Input 2, respectively, could be used to produce a stereo output of the synth's audio from the R3, by using hard Left and Right pan on the R3 for Inputs 1 and 2, respectively, but it seems a bit of a waste of the R3 to simply do that. The synth's outputs could be used as the inputs to the R3's vocoder, and effects sections.

Not sure if that completely answers the question, as it's not entierely clear what the desired result should be. Which mixer are you using?

I have a mm-242 nady 4 stereo channel line mixer. [4 L, 4 R], but all the inputs are taken up by other synths [one being the R3], hence wanting to plug the external synth into the R3 via the two inputs, to get the same result. Maybe my understanding of what stereo is, isn't right here but all my other synths i like to plug both left and right outputs into left and right inputs, to get more of a full sound. Its just kind of what ive done for a while.

So I had the idea in passing, but hadn't yet had the chance to sit down and try connecting them that way, and it hadn't yet occurred to me before. I was simply curious if it would work in that way as desired. I'm going to try simply plugging my L/R outputs from my sh4d into the two R3 inputs, and see if that works or not.

Now might be the time to upgrade the mixer to one handling a greater number of stereo channels. Something like the Behringer RX1602 will accept up to 8 separate stereo line inputs.

Using the R3 to process external audio would likely require the R3's keys to be played in order for sound to come through from its Inputs 1 and 2, or at least that's true for the Vocoder effect. No harm in trying, though, just to see what comes out. The R3's inputs will need to be set to Line sensitivity, and the Mic switch on the R3 front panel will need to be set to the Rear setting.
