I can’t comment on the differences in sound . I’ve only heard the pa5x on line and comparisons on YouTube . I’m not hearing a substantial difference and I suspect it’s more about different effects being used on the sounds and samples that are common between the two keyboards

I have yet to hear PA5 in real however I can say that the styles on the pa4x are well programmed , well balanced and mixed and sound professional.

I think there’s a real difference has to be function and features . This is because the pa5x is clearly not a fully featured Workstation anrranger keyboard .

They is still a substantial number of editing tools missing from the PA5x that exist on the PA4X that people have come to love and expect .

It really depends on what rob is actually looking for in his next arranger purchase and what he believes is good value for money .

Despite some of my grumbles with PA5X, I have to say post "OS 1.2.0", I have personally not experienced any further freezing episode todate.

Not taking anything away from PA4X (Great keyboard), in one of the early threads for PA5X, Antony Sharmman who is one of are reliable resident experts, did address this question here>
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 64&start=0

Quote:
Bachus wrote:
(The question that needs to be answered is : where does the EDS-XP differ from the pa4x engine?)

Antony replies:
(It differs in sound clarity and stereo image when 8 full tracks are playing in a style ! This is not an ordinary Pa sounding arranger anymore !
DNC2 engine is still the same Only a send controller has been added , so at this level DNC2 engine is the same (where round robin could be
applied even in Sound interface of Pa4X) , but stereo OSC with 24 independent filters , almost double the ability to create more complex
sounds with articulation in advanced sound modeling.)

I would agree with many views about this, the Fidelity has improved with PA5X in comparison to PA4X, and I have previously owned PA4X , + currently have PA5X.

I think part of the problem (not all) is converting our work from Pa4x. I have found some styles, even after converted, froze up the screen. With factory styles, until specific bonus styles made exclusively for pa5x, would be a better solution.
I am keeping my pa1000 which I gig with and my PA3x as a backup.
Enjoy the new sounds of the pa5x. Every day is a pleasure trying out the different features.
That is my opinion after owning it since May 2023.

PA5X

Post by Steamdude »

Hello. Just trying to get a consensus on whether the pa5x will really ever get fixed. I bought a 88 key and am have massive troubles with chord recognition even after the new download which somehow messed up my slider light bar that makes half the bar light up off and on which I can live with but not the chord recognition problem as I could never play live with it. Don't know how the guys on youtube are making them sound so smooth. Also my sounds chance arbitrarily while playing which is extremely annoying. Got two emails into korg support with response saying I'll hear back in 3 days but it's been two months and nada. I love the board and hate to return it as I only have a week to make up my mind so any helpful advice from your pros would be appreciated 👍

my advice would be to open a new thread with more information about what kind of problems you are running in to with the chord recognition. It doesn't help to ask these kind of questions in these kind of threads because in general the more experienced people avoid these kind of threads.

but since you only got a week to decide and based on your remarks i'm going to guess. It sounds like your update went wrong (a half lightbar is not acceptable in any case in my opinion). So make your backup of your own files and then update your pa5x again, to see if the half lightbar is resolved. If it is, then try the chord recognition again and see if it works now.

I also saw a post of you about the chord recognition on the pa4x a couple of years ago, so it could be that you don't have the correct settings in your pa5x or you need to adapt your playing style.

If you need to adapt your playing style then follow the instructions in my tutorial, it contains the settings and the tips how to use chord recognitions on your own level:

Are you saying you have a chance for a Refund ?

Got my PA5X88 refund on the 3rd day
was under the illusion that things would improve over time
I now personally think that the OS-3 Update will possibly
cause other issues.....................But thats just my opinion .
