"E" Fender Rhodes

Post by ElevenPhingahz »

A fantasy wish list item... the famous Leeds "E" Fender Rhodes sampled for the Kronos. I bet it would sell with no problem, that "sound" was signature for the early 80's jazz & pop recordings.

Definitely a worthy quest for the gifted who know how to bring a musical sample to the table...

That is an excellent Suitcase Rhodes sample.

Would be nice but I have P. Creek. May consider though!

I also have several items from P. Creek, excellent sample library... maybe Busch can take a stab at the E-Rhodes?

This kind of Rhodes sound is not as special, as some may think, and not half as legendary and influential, as the original Rhodes sounds have been.

It sounds a lot like some 80s Dyno My Rhodes suitcase variation. I clearly prefer orginal early and mid 70s Rhodes sounds over these, a bit too bell-smooth 80s Rhodes, which with all their candy and cream are hardly bearable for more than one or two songs to me. It's no coincidence they were heavily used on ballads, up to bordering kitsch and elevator musak for my taste: just much too much sugar and cream in the good coffee. But to each his own. :-)

As software sample library, the "Rhodes E" sound is offered by Orange Tree samples. A first class (for my ears better, more biting) Dyno Rhodes is offered by Spectrasonics "Keyscape". That (a bit more aggressive) one sounds a lot more like what keyboarders like George Duke or Donald Fagen used. Maybe Tom Canning recordings with Al Jarreau sound most like the E.

In software sample libraries, my actual absolute favorite is the extremely versatile Scarbee 88, which offers some of the best of the original Rhodes variations to me.

The Kronos offers an absolutely dreadful Dyno version in it's EP engine, which meanwhile sounds quite outdated to me for it's (better) other Rhodes sounds as well - a thorough overhaul is overdue since years!

Meanwhile, on the Kronos, I prefer a mid 70s Busch Rhodes sample library over the Kronos EP engine, and can only recommend Busch's EP libraries to everyone!

In software sample libraries, my actual absolute favorite is the extremely versatile Scarbee 88, which offers some of the best of the original Rhodes variations to me.

Yea Jim the 1975 Rhodes sample by Busch is really good, You are right the E

Rhodes a different sound not as barky as the original Rhodes suitcase or

Stage Mark 1 73 Rhodes. Love me some Donald Fagen he used the Mark 11

stage Rhodes which he is absolutely a monster player.
