Genos Update
These kind of comments are without content of any information - therefore worthless.Biggles wrote:It still does not impress me .... I would make a tin whistle.
A serious test would compare the pros and cons of great keyboards and that would be more useful as a gratuitous cheap showmanship.
kind regards

No need for Pros and Cons, being made by Yamaha is sufficient to dismiss it from being bought by my hard earned cash.
What it dies show is that Yamaha have followed Korg’s lead in designing a keyboard with limited capabilities in its initial guise but more features are unlocked in subsequent OS uodates.

I have them both (the Korg Pa4x and the Yamaha Genos).
It's easy to compare them, they are taking a quite different approach. Some things are better on the pa4x and some things are better on the Genos.
Sound wise there isn't much difference one you modify the sounds on both machines. I did the same song on both machines, i will post it here below to let you hear the differences. Of course the styles are different but you can compare the sound that way, since it's my own sound interpretation of the same song where i use the possibilities of the keyboards.
Korg Pa4x: song Ayla - Angelfalls

Re: Genos Update
That's a question of faith and does not care what producers did and how the did. It is crucial to get good products as is the case - as QuiRobinez shows with his sound examples!Biggles wrote: .. No need for Pros and Cons .... Yamaha have followed Korg’s lead in designing ....

Fortunately, there are enough Yamaha owners that would say the EXACT same thing about Korg's, and it would have the EXACT same validity.Biggles wrote:It still does not impress me enough to even consider buying a Genos.
If Yamaha were the only keyboard manufacturer I would make a tin whistle.
That is.... none!

Many thanks for posting the comparison.
Very useful and clearly demonstrates that the sound from the Kog in this case is far more pleasing to these old ears than that produced by yourself on the Genos.
The Genos seems a very capable keyboard and at thevend of the day it is what works for you that matters.
It is subjective, I dislike Yamaha simply because I find the sounds they produce shrill and grating to my ears, coupled with non user friendly menu system and up until the Genos and SX series the build materials used look more like a child's keyboard from the eighties.

it's a big step for yamaha, it adds tons of features for free (which we are used to in korg gear, but for yamaha this is quite new).karmathanever wrote:So what is special about Genos V2 please?
Pete
There are a lot of features but the most important ones are:
- 50 new styles
- 68 new voices
- Expansion memory expanded to 3 gigabytes
- Chord looper with 8 chord slots per song (which makes pattern based looping possible)
- Style creator improvements (which is a very usable feature to easely modify existing styles to new ones, it's simpler to use then on a pa4x)
- Number of User effects expanded
- Further integration with the ipad (like for instance analyse any audio song and transfer the chords to the corresponding 8 slots in the chord looper) , the connection on the genos with the ipad is wireless by the way (audio and midi)
- things like extra portamento features and style reset, extra external control settings to assign to your external midi controllers
And so on...
It probably depends on what users consider special and what features they want and need to be added at the keyboard.karmathanever wrote:So what is special about Genos V2 please?

If anyone has any further interest, Yamaha's update info is to find here:

It amazes me that no matter what keyboard forum I visit mature adults have to have a pissing contest that my arranger is better than yours!
I own a Genos and a Pa4x. My comment is some days and gigs I like the Genos other days and gigs it’s the Pa4x, they are both outstanding in their own way.
