Hi,
I'm considering buying a Kronos, and wonder whether it can do the following (which some of my other synths can do, and which I want in any new keyboard I buy).
a) Press a note or chord, and Latch them.. (without any pedal stuff). Super for drones..
b) Have an arpeggio playing, and latch it
c) Any latched arpeggio should be transposable be semis using single key press. Super for Berlin School style synth sequencing..
.. I'm checking this because I got myself a Minilogue recently and was absolutely gob smacked to realise that the Minilogue can't do the above (my old RADIAS can!)
Thx!

I believe the Kronos with Karma can do a) and b)DungBeatle wrote:Hi,

from the Kronos manual:
"LATCH button
When LATCH is turned on, KARMA will continue to play even after you’ve stopped holding notes on the keyboard or MIDI In.
This is convenient when you want to play on top of a KARMA‐generated groove, for instance."
I also recommend you D/L the Kronos manual and read the pertinent sections before you purchase the Kronos. A basic question usually evolves into further questions.
Your c) I am not clear on. Maybe the manual can address
Be careful with the previous reply: Karma is a complex beast. The latch explications is correct. But Karma will not do just any arpeggio - if you want specific ones you'll have to either tweak existing GEs or make your own GEs - to do that you need to buy the Karma software (which is only like 200 euros). Karma will change the note range based on the key you press. You can set it to do that instantly, or tunes to measure or beat.
The sequencer can perhaps do what you want. You can progam any pattern, and you can assign that to any key. It can easily be transposed (you'll have to assign the pattern to very key you need - but that's just a couple of clicks). You can tell the sequencer to latch a pattern (so it continues to play even if you release the key). You can have a pattern repeat indefinitely until you hit the lower octaves (which will halt all pattern playing). Does this help?

At the current exchange rate, KARMA Kronos software is about 158 Euros.tomto66 wrote:Be careful with the previous reply: Karma is a complex beast. The latch explications is correct. To the OP: yes, KARMA can do all of things you have requested. C) is sort of a hidden feature, but it can be done (I call it Auto-Transpose) - in other words, you play a complex full chord on the keyboard, it causes KARMA to generate a certain arpeggiated pattern, then you want to transpose that whole pattern into a different key with a single note, rather than replaying the original complex chord in a different key. Yes, it can do it.

Kronos comes with a ton of Karma GEs - those are the 'patterns' if you wish (though a GE is far more than an arranger pattern). If you cannot find what you need in the factory-provided GEs, you can make your own. But to do that you need additional software.

The Kronos comes with a certain number of sounds, programs, samples etc. If you want additional ones, then you purchase sound libraries. But you don't have to.DungBeatle wrote:Surely if I buy a Kronos, I don't have to buy anything extra?
The Kronos comes with a certain number of KARMA GE patterns, and they are editable within the confines of the keyboard architecture in certain ways. If you want to create your own custom ones, or edit them beyond the capabilities provided by the keyboard, then you purchase the KARMA Kronos Software. But you don't have to.
