password protected keyboard
anybody feels that these keyboards should be password protected to protect our data on the stage ? let sugust to Korg to come up with something like this
This topic has come up like 300 times already. This thread didn't add or help in any way...It deserves to be locked for sure.
If you want to stop people from accessing the USB port, you can use those USB port blockers. In my case I needed to block the ports to stop random people (mostly teens) from loading their own sets over mine on a Church keyboard that sits out in the open at all times. It can be defeated as it's just a simple protection method. It works for the most part because it can stop those who just want to mess around...
In the past, some users argued that blocking the ports (or passcode type of protection) can not stop people from stealing the keyboard! As if adding a password has stopped anybody from stealing other digital devices like laptops and smart phones!

Thats a valid reason SAM, but then in church dont people respect someone else's property?Sam CA wrote:This topic has come up like 300 times already. This thread didn't add or help in any way...It deserves to be locked for sure.

Or is it more like kids that dont have a keyboard at home but cant afford one and use the one in curch to practice? In which case there is definately a task for the church to facillitate them if they have the means to dos so...
That's exactly what I'm trying to say. Regardless of what the scenario may be, when you turn on the keyboard and the content is messed around with (in any shape or form) none of this matters anymore. At that point you don't sit around and do a psychoanalysis of people's behavior. Then, you'd probably be looking for some kind of solution that helps you in a way. Some people may not understand why you're having this problem, because they've never been in that kind of situation.Bachus wrote:

In any case, for now this port blocker option has worked for me, but I can see how a passcode could be a more affective way.
This topic comes up every once in a while, and I'm always amazed at the response some give.
It should be pretty obvious that there are many people here who use arrangers in different ways.
Among them are ethnic musicians who use custom styles on the PA4X to play music for their communities; Greek, Armenian, Arab, Bulgarian etc...
Custom sets need to be developed for these sorts of gigs, and if someone were to steal them, they could easily start to book gigs in those communities (assuming it's an insider who knows the songs and just needs styles).
When I invest time and money in developing styles, I don't want my competitors stealing/accessing them, because that directly affects me, not just in that they got the set I paid for for free, but because they are now able to directly compete with me in a small market.

A factory shipped password protection of any keyboard software can't be ever happen for many obvious reasons !
If they ever add such a utility , this would be in extra software form that can be easily hacked , so IMO this will not happpen !
All commercial Pro complete resources have their own protection that KorgPa or associates provide , but single end-users
with their own custom resources must find a well working protection for their arrangers when exposed to public.
USB port blocker is a temporary solution but 3 ports must be blocked (including rear media connection square USB port)
and you always have the risk that someone can destroy your ports trying to access it with tools !
As I had wrote in the past , my advice for people who face this issue is to devote 5 minutes before their performance
and do the following.
- Do not keep in Pa HD Sound & Styles resources.
- Create a full resource backup of your work (BKP) in a thumb drive that you will always carry with you.
- Before your gig , load this BKP file (4 minutes the most)
- Before abandon your arranger , make a factory restore (Media/Utility)
Also enforce club/hall owner to make an insurance coverage for your gear there !
Hope this helps
