CONSIDERING PA4X
Hello all,
I currently have the Yamaha Tyros 5 to do my music compositions. I have heard great things about the PA4X and I thought that would be a nice alternative to my comfort zone of the Tyros. I have the PA600 but I find the operating system to be quite difficult and I have yet to produce an entire song from it. I would like to have an opinion regarding getting the PA4x to augment my set up. It would be great help with the feedback from someone with experience of both Tyros and PA4x. Thanks !

Hello!
If you don't like the pa600 interface then you most propably will not like the pa4x too as they are 90%+ the same.
Soundwise the pa4x is a very good machine with a lot of high quality sounds.
The pa600 is out of the competition in this category but it offers much for its money (256mb rom library when the 4x has 5.1gb).
Don't forget though that the pa600 costs 1/5 of what a 4x-tyros5 costs.
I also agree with people saying that the sequencer on the pa arrangers is way better than yamaha one.
I personally find the pa OS way too easy to understand and use!

Considering PA4X
I had the Tyros 2 some time ago and have played the 4 and 5 a bit.
I bought the PA4X Pro recently, after considering the Tyros and others for some time. It is an amazing instrument. Have had a lot of Korg synths over the years and other manufacturers ( including several not listed below). I really like the Korg Interface. The sounds are excellent, but a bit more work needed to some of the saxes possibly.
The touch screen is so fast , clear and easy to navigate. A few sections take a bit of getting used to like finding the pitch control.
As a string player musician of some years ago, I was blown away with some of the string and percussion sounds. Certainly comparable with Kurzweil, and Yamaha XF range. The percussion and effects are amazing. The range of styles is really usable, and the drums really sound realistic.
I liked the compactness of the Pa4 X Pro, the layout and build quality.
Not saying the Tyros is not good, but the overall package from Korg is excellent. A well-respected dealer in the UK who has both the Tyros 5 and PA4XPro prefers the Korg !

Touch screen
Is it possible to mirror the touch screen from the Pa4x to an external monitor or on any earlier models? I believe the Tyros has always had this capability?
Thanks ~ Charley

Long live the Pa1x
Re: Touch screen
You can mirror the screen but not the touch capabilities.Charley Brown wrote:Is it possible to mirror the touch screen from the Pa4x to an external monitor or on any earlier models? I believe the Tyros has always had this capability?

I am really thinking about getting the Pa4x. This will be a nice alternative to my Tyros. Maybe I didn't give the PA600 interface a chance as I am too used to the Tyros. I am selling my MINT Pa600 cheap of 500.00bucks if anyone is interested. Just bought it less than 5 months ago and hardly touched it. I live in the US. Dai
I just got a pa4x to go with an Audya and Yamaha S970. I have not had a bit of trouble navigating the Korg, also you would have an instrument on par with your Tyros. There is much to like about a Tyros, but the drums and the rest of the accompaniment sound so much more realistic to me on the Korg.
At any rate, I am tickled to death with my pa4X.

I have the PA600 and I am impressed of the sounds already. It has many piano/strings patches while the Tyros 5 only has one. Looks like I will buy the PA4x.

I hope I will find the Korg interface easy to use. I love Yamaha stuff but the Tyros interface at times can be so annoying. For example, after you change the pan setting, logic tells me that after you push "save" button, then the settings will be saved. But with the Tyros, you have to push a couple more buttons before you can save. Dai
I went to Yamaha a while back but soon got out of that because I could not get on with yam OS after having the PA600 and PA900 so I went for the 4X but to a new user the 4x could be a bit of a challenge but once mastered you wont want another yamaha. Some things are now different on the 4x but like everything once you get used to it you will love it.
Negativity is a disease of the brain. Positivity is owning a PA4X
I have done research on both T5 and PA4x and this is what I find. That is the Korg tends to be favored more by seasoned musicians. It is also thought of being better built. I have a Tyros5 and Pa3x. Although I love the tyros5-76, it lacks the punch that my Pa3x has. From all the positive reports of the Pa4x I believe it will be my next arranger. In the next couple of weeks I hope to demo the Pa4x, in the meantime my T5 is up for sale.dai phan wrote:I have done research on both T5 and PA4x and this is what I find.
