Selecting style elements of PA600 using FLStudio

Post by Roy.hewa »

Hello everyone,

This is more of FLStudio related question rather than PA600.

What I am trying to achieve is to use DAW to send the code progression and style element selection to PA600 and record it in PA600 using backing sequence (Quick Record). I feel it more accurate and easy to edit with DAW UI (As I am not an expert chord player). Once above is done I can use multi track sequencer of to record other melodies (Guitar, strings etc.) of the song.

I found below video on you tube which is very useful in my situation as I am still learning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eHgTEjZH9U

I tried the same thing with FLStudio and got stuck at one stage.

In FLStudio:

Created one midi out track which sends code progression to my PA using Channel 1 (In PA600 channel 1 is set to Global) - which is fine, I worked it out.

Need to have separate track (Or events on the above same track, but using channel 2) on channel 2 (Channel 2 in PA600 is set to Control) to send program change (CC#) midi messages at different points of the song to select different style elements.

For example

At the beginning of the song send a program change midi message to select Intro 3
After 1 bar send a program change midi message to select Var 2
After 4 bars send a program change midi message to select a Fill
..
..
After 8 bars send a program change midi message to select Ending3

I tried hours and hours and searched on internet to find exactly how I should be doing this, but could not.

If someone can pls explain me how to do above or may be point me to a tutorial/video it would be really appreciated.

Have a good day guys! :)

FL Studio is not supporting sending midi out Program Change (CC#).

You should be talking to the forum for your DAW:

In all due respect, tacman7 if you know how FL Studio can send out midi Program Change to external devices, why don't you tell us, we all like to hear about.
Google it, copy , paste links to another forums is not much helpful, unless you really find solution.

I do not know how to send out program changes in FLstudio, haven't used it in years.

I did a quick search and found relevant topics in FLstudio forums so I suggested he look there.

I see nothing wrong with that.

To the OP.

There's a lot of ways to use a DAW with an arranger keyboard.

I evolved through a lot of different methodologies.

You can run the whole arranger with the DAW if you want to.

What sort of goal did you have in mind?

Performing, songwriting, sound design, etc...

I am working with FL Studio everyday, I know This DAW since was FruityLoops... and I'm sure how and what can sent externally,.... so don't be mad if I react when someone out of blue saying otherwise , I wish you tell me I'm wrong, I want to use FL Studio to control my Korg. :D

I am going to settle with Cubase Elements 8. It has a very easy way of sending MIDI messages. I could exactly do what is shown in the video in the original post, and use the same technique in the sequencer mode, so that I can record it in PA.

Thanks everyone for advice. :)
