Stand recommendation?

Post by Jim olson »

I have Kronos X88 and just did a gig where there was a grand piano that the club refused to move. The only choice we had was to close the lid, set the Kronos on top & play standing up. I loved it. It changed the band's visual and our overall stage presence. I really need a new stand that will elevate to "new heights" :).
The days of the multi level keyboard stacks are over for me. Truly believe I can do it all with this one keyboard.

Please recommend some choices for single keyboard stands that can hold the weight of this beast.

Thanks to all in advance,
Jim

I use an Ultimate Apex which works well, although I have to admit on a shaky stage there can be a lot of jiggle while jumping around on heavy choruses. Perhaps a K&M Spider Pro? For sitting down there are a lot more super solid options, I'm afraid.

How about an inexpensive A frame, should have a good view if it is the only keyboard and you could shorten it if you so desired.

I've used Apex stands, X-stands, Z-stands... Z -stands I like best. But they are height-limited.

I'm now using this, and enjoying the clean look, fast setup and breakdown, and the plenty of room for foot pedals:

It can be customized for width, depth, height, keyboard angle. Especially great customization to get multiple keyboards as closely stacked as you want. I know you only have one keyboard here, but you could make a utility shelf to hold laptops, gadgets, beer, what have you. If you're rather tall, there's a 60" version which may be more suitable. Expensive tho =/

I use an I.Q. 3,000 made by Ultimate Support for live. It's an X style. Works great. Very strong. I made a pedal board that locks into the feet so that my pedals never move.

I have a K&M Spider Pro and can confirm that it is rock solid. I use it mostly for the Kronos88 together with a 61 midi keyboard or my PA2X as a midi-keyboard. The K&M has also nice options to allow for an Ipad or Laptop on top, if needed

I use a twin tier Quik Lok system live and it does the trick and there is no movement on the keyboard (Kronos 88). I've taken it to a couple of rehearsal rooms where I've used the in house solutions and I've lived in fear of the stand breaking or the Kronos going flying.

another vote for K&M Spyder Pro. It's what I use for a single stand. Really easy load-in/load out too.
I also have a On-Stage Z stand for 2-level, if I ever need that.
Bass and keyboard player, not usually at the same time, but sometimes in the same song!
Boards: Kronos 2, and Hammond SK1
Basses: Fender, G&L

Solid Stand

Post by Ottawa58 »

From the picture, the solid stand doesn't look that solid. (With just one supporting post, and not particularly stable looking feet). It does have the up and down ease if you alternate playing heights. I checked the price, and it seems to be pretty high!

I use this one:

it's rock solid, folds easily, big space for pedals. If it is available in your country I absolutely recommend it.

I use a QuikLok Z-71

http://www.quiklok.com/catalog/?p=produ ... sName=Z-71

Very solid and lots of foot space for pedals. Bonus if you're tall - this one goes higher than most. I'm 6'4" and this stand gets the key bed of my Kronos 88 into a suitable position.

Hope this helps.

Though it's a 2 tier, The Spider Pro has been the best. Not the lightest (or heaviest) stand going, but solid and quick tear down. The 1 tier thing lets you choose some stands with more vanity which is cool, though some look a bear to setup and don't fold up much if space is a factor.
