The youtube demo of my forthcoming Kronos Soundbank

Post by coyote144 »

Hi there,

Let me share with you some sound of my Kronos Soundbank in progress.

http://youtu.be/Uj7XbwPyB04

This bank, which is not still achieved (only 45 patches at the moment) is only made with sounds 100% programmed from scratch by myself, using only EXi instruments: AL1, MS20, Polysix, MOD7, STR-1, and a few SGX2. All sounds will have RT controlers, Karma and drumtracks programmed.

I am excited to receive your coments, whatever you think about it, feel free to give a feedback.

This bank will not be sold, but is done as a reward for the contributors to the french spoken website Kronoscopie.fr

Many thanks for paying attention to my little video!

hi coyote144,

there are some really nice patches in that demo. I especially like the sounds:
- FM Brilliant Bass
- S&H MS Crazy

Most impressive sound: Turning Mirrors (what a great atmosphere in that sound. One tip: I would make the Pitch envelope switchable with the SW1 so that you can have it with and without the pitch raise at the end)

Keep on the good work :)

Hi Qui,

Many thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it, especially coming form an experimented sound designer like you. This topic is the opportunity to thank you for all the contributions you bring to our Kronos community.

Some details about the programming tips I used. FM brilliant brass is nothing special, it is a FM brass made from scratch. I use copy/paste for FM envelopes, and modulate intensity/time of the envelopes segment with velocity, aftertouch and modulation wheels to make the most living sounds.

S&H MS crazy is an attempt to imitate one of my favourite Mutable Instrument Shruthi oscillator section: at every key strike, the oscillator waveform is changed, switching from Pulse to saw, then noise randomly.

Turning mirrors is a MOD7 sound. The pitched effect are done with a special Karma GE which is designed to pitch bend effect, and being able to go from one pitch to another in different ways, from portamento (glissando) to chromatics ways. It was, at the begiggning, an attempt to simulate my old Yamaha CS60 behavior for its portemento section. I did not succeed, but this gave me another result that seems tobe very interesting to!

Further feedbacks are more than welcome, especially the sounds you prefer or things that could be improved!

My soundset is almost achieved. I hope I'll have some time this week end to deliver a second video with some new sounds.

I put again my first video with a youtube player this time.

I consider myself a pretty critical guy, and gotta say those are FANTASTIC man! Nice work. Sound great, fresh (Piano Shimmer is Killin!) and even a good variety of types of sounds.

Bravo!

Turning Mirrors is my fave. I would love to have that patch to drop into a slow atmospheric ambient song.

Great work and variety too.

Many thanks for watching this video. Your comments are very encouraging for me.

As I said, I have planned a second video, this week-end hopefully, with more sounds. Maybe I'll make a track using only sounds with this soundset...

I have another bank in project, using only HD1, based on sampling my favorites analog gear available at home (Roland MKS80 & SH1, Minimoog Model D), only based on the original analog envelopes for VCA and Filters. I have already made one a few years ago for Motif XS. This is another story, I should first achieve the first one...Stay tuned.

Great work and thank you for your time making this. I always appreciate those who contribute to these wonderful machines.

One suggestion, can you record it from a birds eye view?
I wasn't quite sure as to which direction to turn my head lol

Thanks for watching the first video, here's the second one!

Some work still to do: finding a name to the bank :D , writing a document to summarize the real time controllers for each sound, achieve Real Time controller affectation, Programming 8 karma and Drum track for each sound...Stay tuned!
