Restore-Back up question

Post by vagro »

Hi everyone. Please read carefully and see if I make mysef clear enough.
Before Os 1.63 I had modified factory styles and factory sounds (ie saxes and guitars had different samples because I use a pedal volume (=joystick up) for modulation instead of triggering sounds). Some of this sounds were not saved in the user area because I tweaked the original factory sound to make the start up in my Korg faster. I made Full Restore backups and SET backups before updating OS 1.63.
I finally found my styles and sounds after a Full Restore, they are not in the SET backup because it only saves the User not Factory sounds/styles. Now I want to save all the factory styles/sounds to be able to load them one by one after I go back to the new performances/sounds that offered the new 1.63 OS.
I face the following problem:

In Media/Save(SYS)/ALL/Sounds I only find user sounds, not the factory sounds I tweaked.
In Media/Save(Sys)/All/Styles I find factory styles but I can't save them all together, only one by one.

How can I save all style banks in a single step, to load them back later?
I can't find the way to save all factory sounds.

Thanks

As I've frequently mentioned in this forum that the only backup for edited factory resources is BKP full resource backup !
Though you can save factory styles during a YourSet.SET backup , when un-check all factory styles protections (media/preferences).
Edited factory sounds , especially with custom samples can't be saved via a ".SET" saved format ...
you have to copy them in a User bank first !

So , if you want to update OS in a factory edited resources SET , then the proper steps to accomplish that , are the following :
- Save your set as BKP format like "MySet.BKP".
- Save your set under ALL,SET format due to select later individual user sounds & styles if needed.
- Update with newer OS
- Media/Utility/Factory restore and check important new factory resources.
- Save some important new factory styles or sounds in a user sound bank like User4.
- Save factory All.SET with unchecked all factory resources protection boxes , due to select later some updated resources.
- Media/Utility/resources restore your saved "MySet.BKP" (OS isn't included in a BKP file format).
- Use saved factory.SET due to select individual sounds or Performances that you might need
- Done

Thank you Anthony

In first place I don't read all your posts. I read those that interest me and I solve the problems I face once they arise.

Then the answers to my 2 questions are those that I knew:

1)Question 1: How can I save all style banks in a single step, to load them back later?
No way to do that. I must save one style bank at a time in a new Set.

2)Question2: I can't find the way to save all factory sounds.
There is no way to save them straight. I have to copy them one by one in the user area.

A very archaic method to manage software in 2014 Korg.
It's time to check WAVEXtractor's Korg Pa Manager program.

Nope ... ! already wrote the similar way , as far I remember from all PaSeries ...
- Unlocking all factory protection boxes and save All.SET , then all factory style banks will be saved in that All.SET
I haven't tried it yet in Pa3X , since I do not use any factory styles , but let us know if it does not work in Pa3X OS v1.6x.

Indeed ... there is no way to save directly factory sounds !
That's why I wrote you the exact method to avoid copying hundreds of factory sounds step by step !
There is no other way (even using external utilities) to access directly Factory sounds of PaSeries.

I tried again: unlocking all factory protection doesn't allow saving factory styles in an ALL.Set

My old and basic Yamaha Psr s900 allows me to copy all factory styles or sounds to the pendrive in three steps: Copy/copy all/Paste.

Anyway I already did what I needed. Thanks

Think there might be some confusion here....
I tried again: unlocking all factory protection doesn't allow saving factory styles in an ALL.Set
Correct - you have to "open" the "All" (hence SSD) and then select the factory banks in order to save factory styles.
This is explained on page 230+ in the latest PA3X User Manual (v110) under the heading "Saving all data of a specified type".
You must unlock factory styles to see the factory style banks.

There is no clean way to save or load "all" factory styles other than a factory "Backup/Restore" which uses a ".BKP" file which Antony has already mentioned.

Cheers

Pete , he's absolutely right , I tried it , and I can confirm that contrary to older PaSeries , Pa3X does not save Factory
styles , as Pa2X/Pa800/Pa1X , in a All.SET when factory protections are turned off !!!

Anthony and Pete

Anyway I was able to do it by saving each factory bank in one Set by repeating the Copy procedure 15 times. You get one Set with all the banks.

Greetings

Hi vagro

Yes, that is the only way to do it - this is how I have saved all my factory styles from my PA1xPro/PA2Xpro keyboards.

Great - glad to got it sorted.

Cheers
