Have been having a great time trying out my newly arrived Digitech DF7 and the Boss OS2. And the winner is ............................... The Boss. So out goes the Digitech and next. mmm.. I quite fancy testing out a Tube Screamer- isn't ebay just great?- you don't even have to leave the house! I had a WMD Geiger Counter- for me they are not too compatible with the Electribes. Now this biscuit thing has caught my attention though. I'll be paying some close attention to that. Anyone used one!

I've heard only good things about the biscuit, never used one tho. will have to research whether the cost of it is justified, seems steep. In the meantime I'm waiting on a quote for a bunch of pedals. was playing with my Kaossilator pro last night.. passing it thru Boss MT-2 metal zone distortion and CH-1 super chorus... makes the cheesy sounds alot less cheesy.

The biscuit does indeed sound great- it is expensive for a new one- even dearer than a Frostwave Sonic Alienator. You could buy a whole bag of effects for that price. I might wait for a drop on that one. At the opposite end of the price spectrum- Has anyone tried a wah-wah pedal?

I've used the Wah wah pedal on my POD XT Live. But it doesn't really lend itself to my sound so I don't find much use for it. You could probably get a similar sound with creative use of filter and/or LFO.

had a Frostwave Sonic Alienator for awhile a few years ago and never really found all that much use for it, couldn't see the biscuit being substantially different, though it has been a while since I had a look at it. as far as decimator/bit crusher effects I have a preference for the Alesis Bitrman, and they do occasionally go for less than the usual $200-250 on ebay.

It's not bitcrushing, but I'd argue the right pair of tubes can mostly negate the need for external distortion/compression. It's certainly worth dropping the $40 on them if for nothing but improved overall tone and "punch" to your sound.

Fuzz with ESX

Electro Harmonix Little Big Muff sounds great with drums. Mine is modified and resembles the Little Big Muff Tone Wicker. I don't have any demos of it used with the ESX but I have a demo of it processing drums from my computer here...

I use a RAT distortion pedal. Unlike most fuzz type things, the Rat doesn't filter out too much of the original frequency range, making it ideal as a keyboard effect.

Recently worked on a project with around 15 other keyboardists, where distortion was required. Nearly all of us turned up with a RAT. Guess we all did the same research.

For drums sounds, I go for a little reverb (but go lightly on bass drum sounds). Filter sweeps a nice, can be through a pedal but better still through a synth audio In. I also like a little slow phasing for that German electronic sound.

For synth sounds, I recommend the RAT distortion pedal. A great unit for non-guitar players, as it won't destroy too much of the original frequency range, compared to most units.

Hi- yes I had a shot of a RAT from a guitarist & liked it- well worth a try! I decided however to invest in a Sonic Alienator- they really are the business-for me anyway. It's like an instrument itself- it can make the blandest of synths sound interesting or it can inject otherwise dull patterns back with a new lease of life :)
