Post by mrtunes »

on the esx-1, if i have a pattern that is 1 bar long but then i make it 4 bars, is there a way to copy everything in bar 1 over to the next 3 bars?

hmm. Usually if i have a one bar loop, i can save it set it from length 1 to say 4 and it should duplicate the original pattern, is this not the case for you?

I remember experimenting with this a while ago. I think it used whatever was already saved in memory rather than what was in the edit buffer.
Can you try 'writing' the pattern before extending it?

How do you write the pattern?

For the EMX it works if you start with a pattern of length 1 (You gotta set it to length 1 first). If you're done, "Write" it into memory and then increase the length to 8. Your pattern of length 1 will be copied to the rest of the now longer pattern.
I mostlikely works the same way for the ESX.

Have you actually read the manual ? It's one thing to ask for help but nobody can operate it for you.

Ouch

Ask any question you like. Folks are happy to help and the more people we help get over the initial hump of getting used to the device, the better the resale market is. Also, more music.

Don't bother asking any question you like if you have not at least attempted to read through the manual first. It is surely not too much to expect- is it? Firstly you need to know how it all works in order to get the best out of it- reading the manual is the only way to do this. Secondly the Electribe manuals are super skinny anyway- and they are also well written with little pictures to show you- and an index at the back. Thirdly if you are asking for help it is always useful to preface it with what your understanding is/isn't and what you have tried already. Fourthly if everyone was to ask straightforward questions on the forums without reference to the manuals- then they would be awash with these questions- diluting the good stuff. Lastly not reading the manual is a bad habit to get in to- if you want to experiment- fine- if you want to know what you are experimenting with- put the effort in to finding out yourself.

Yes everyone needs help- and we are here to give it- but surely reading the manual is the obvious starting point? All you have to do is read & turn a page or two- what's wrong with that?

OK

OK, but maybe a lighter touch. No one _has_ to either read or respond and it's not like there's so much traffic here that screen space is in short supply.

Dear OP,
Page 35 of the manual, which is here (http://www.korg.com/uploads/Support/ESX ... 920000.pdf) gets you started with patterns. This is assuming you've kept the original files in there or have some sample content to get started with. If not, you'll need to start at the beginning of the manual and record some material or get a media card and download some. The "Open Electribe Editor" can be downloaded for free but again, you'll need a media card. It's useful for managing sample sets.

There are getting started tutorials on YouTube which are worth a shot. Also, Sauce (a forum member) has some excellent tutorials on YouTube which are maybe a little advanced but will keep the juices flowing. Plus he says so much stuff just in passing that it's worth it anyway.

Good luck,

Look. When i first got my electronic gear i wanted to know how to use it but there's one thing i was aware of. You have to learn how to walk before you can run ! ...
...And THAT is no short road.
As i stated before, there's asking for help but nobody can operate the thing for him. Why you feel the need to step in & turn it into a defense thread is a mystery to me.

This forum has always been a helpful one but as a general rule of thumb, it's good manners to actually make some effort yourself before diving in & asking for help. There are too many instances where people ask for help & when they are given good advice they then go on to ask the next thing in the same thread...Just like what happened here.
No apologies made !

thank you for the help, writing the pattern at a longer length worked (of course).
