It's also possible the RAM is sitting in the wrong slot. This was the case with my KRONOS.

Same as the factory solid state drive.
KORG had it connected to port 1 and not port 0

This has been reported on the forums by a few people at this stage.

Sharp

This kind of problems (I could add finding 3 instead of 4 screws fixing the original low quality fan in my Kronos) would hardely ever have a chance to pass end control in Germany.

I ask myself, what causes more costs in the end:
- better (even if more expensive) quality control
- or getting many problems, part exchanges, guarantee repairs and frustrated users, plus a doubtful reputation, due to such end control problems

The Kronos is a much too great synth to suffer from such things.

had the problem two times.
after the first one i bought a APC-UPS.
3 Months everything was OK.
After the second "black screen" i opend the case and reseated the Ram.
I think this was 5 Months ago. no Problems so far.

But now i'm searching for a Backupsolution.

I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again, they should have designed the Kronos so the user had easy access to the RAM.

Someone with this problem has a choice. Opening it up and reseating themselves, voiding their warranty, or being without their board for a week or so, maybe having to pay shipping costs while Korg does it for them.

Sure its a simple enough problem to fix, but when your not allowed to reseat it yourself, then such a problem becomes much more serious.

To be completely independent of a power source.

Kronos power consumption 60 w. Not a lot.

I am using a:-

12 V SEALED LEAD ACID BATTERY CHARGER 1250 mA when there is power available.

BATTERY 12v 33 Amp Hour sealed.

IMPORTANT:- Must be a pure sine wave inverter when in use. place in a cool shady situation.

180 Watt 12VDC to 230VAC Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Having a pure sine wave output makes this inverter ideal for running sensitive items like notebook computers and motor-powered devices like fans. The unit continually monitors operational parameters and will alert you to high or low battery voltage, output overload and over-temperature. A USB socket is also fitted and supplies 5VDC for charging USB devices like MP3 players or digital cameras. This is an excellent entry-level inverter and will provide many years of reliable service.

Specifications:
• Output power continuous: 180W
• Output power surge: 300W
• Standby current: <400mA>80%
• Output regulation: ±3%
• Output frequency: 50Hz
• USB output: 5VDC @ 500mA
• Size: 240(L) x 119(W) x 60(H)mm
• Weight: 1kg

Circuit protection:
• Thermal shutdown alarm: 60° C ±4°
• Battery low alarm: 10.5VDC ± 0.5VDC
• Battery low shutdown: 10VDC ± 0.5VDC
• High battery alarm: 15VDC ± 0.5VDC
• Overload: Thermal shutdown
• Reverse polarity: Internal fuse
• Input connection: Fixed cigarette lighter lead
This is for New Zealand available from

http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp ... rm=KEYWORD.

Of course depending which country you live the power output could be different.

Some inverters produce 'cleaner' power than others. A 'sine wave' inverter produces clean power; anything else is dirty. A sine wave is the ideal form of AC power and is what is delivered by the national grid to your house.

A 'modified sine wave' inverter is less expensive, but it produces a distorted square waveform. In truth, it isn't a sine wave at all. The misleading term 'modified sine wave' was invented by advertising people. Engineers prefer to call it 'modified square wave'.

if you are at a venue where there is no power available for your Kronos use two 12 volt batteries connected in parallel.
If you are there for a couple of days. you can charge your batteries using solar panel and regulator.

total cost Approx $330 NZ dollars, not including solar panel.
regards,
Mike.

Not true. Just to name a few artists who used the OASYS on live tours:

Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones)
Herbie Hancock
Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)
Keith Emerson
Greg Phillinganes
Tony Banks (Genesis)
etc.

I've never experienced any problems with my OASYS-88 on stage, as it is an absolutely reliable instrument.

This is true but one must consider the fact that none of these artists move their keyboards themselves. They don't pack them up, load in and out of gigs adn have to get them in and out of their vehicles. Plus, they all have their own techs to take care of them. The stage power is always isolated from everything else.

I've been using my 73 Kronos a lot since I picked it up a year ago in September. I've done no hardware upgrades and I'm still running O.S. 1.6 in it. I've had only one oddball screw-up and that was when for some reason no sound came out after I powered it up at rehearsal. I turned off and then back on and it was fine.
Any other problems I've had, I've caused myself by doing dumb things to it. If it did start to act seriously messed up I would NOT get rid of it. I'd get it fixed. The Kronos in IMHO is still the best workstation out there.
