Oasys and PA3X

Post by methusala »

Hi everyone,

I've just watched Steve Mcnally's YouTube on the Korg PA3X.

I didn't know, until I watched, that Korg teamed up with TC Helicon on this. TC Helicon, in my opinion, is a much under-valued piece of kit. I don't get out much but I hope it's used in many small gigs to sound like there's choir out there.

Steve, I must admit here straight away, is the reason (probably the sole reason, if I'm honest), I bought my Oasys in the first place.

Is there any reason why I should buy the PA3X to play on top of my Oasys?

This thread probably is only of value to anyone who has both keyboards but I thought I would raise it to see if anyone has a view.

Regards,
Patrick

I say go for it (if you can), as i may be adding a keyboard on top of my KRONOS (not sure what though, but the Triton Studio i have probably needs to be replaced, and was thinking Yamaha PS 910 - or something)!

Make sure you have a good stand that enables you to "tilt" the top keyboard in the way you want it to. It also gives a sense of "togetherness!! - unlike some setups i see; with synths many feet from one another

I have a Pa3X and an OASYS. They make a fantastic combination too.

The Pa3X is an extremely enjoyable keyboard to play live. They both complement each other beautifully, but I have to admit. I don't find the need to play the OASYS with the Pa3X that often.

The sounds on the Pa3X are pretty darn good on their own and as an arranger it stands very well on it's own. Having both is the best of both worlds though.

Sharp

I use PA3X and Oasys too. I use Oasys mainly for the Irish vocal samples in the Assault package. If Sharp releases a compressed version of those Assault samples for PA3X, my Oasys might not get used very much.

They do go well together though.

Thanks everyone. I'm teetering on the brink.

The one thing I need to get out of my head is that, to my limited experience of arranger keyboards, they sound just like that--arranger music. There's something synthetic in the sounds---end of the pier, Andy Pandy's coming to play, middle of the road, musak almost.

The answer is that I've got to sit down in front of this instrument until shop closing time having tweeked everything and pressed every button if I am to change my pre-conceived impressions. My thoughts were to have the PA3X provide backing for the O to play over.

One thought-------- Could I program the O to control the PA3X to switch backing tracks etc etc? Now that would be intreresting.

Patrick

Patrick , what you need to be clear about is that almost everything on the PA arranger keyboards are programmable.

If you dont want to play andy pandy music then programme your own and away you go ! What ever you are into musically is all there on the PA Arranger. All you need to do is take the basic style and then individualise if from changing the initial sounds or programming your own , re programming your own bass lines, horns, strings guitars , drums programming, quantising , effects , you name it .

you can even sequence your own stuff on it just like a regular workstation.

Have a look on my youtube site and have a listen to some of the stuff i have done either sequenced or played live on my PA1x Arranger . This instrument is about 8 years old but the features are very similar to the PA3X

This one is a sequenced song that i did on my arranger in rehearsals with my family.

This one is me using the keyboard live as an arranger again with my family and friends singing , no rehearsal just inspired to play and sing at church

This one is a smooth jazz idea i was playing around with. I was experiemnting with the palate type effect on the drums. I created the entire piece as an original piece of music from scratch on the PA1X , no computers or external sequencer .

Everything was recorded straight off my Nokia N8 phone some years ago and coming from my keyboards speakers so forgive the poor audio.
Dont even hesitate on buying an arranger. Its a no brainer for the informed

Worth,

Thank you for your reply. I've viewed your YouTube videos--a gifted family indeed. I sing myself but in concert choirs so I understand and appreciate harmony even on a small scale as well as the art of listening to the other voices as well as the musical accompaniment.

Thanks,
Patrick

PS Is gospel one of the pre-sets?
