SSD Question

Post by Ultimate Dj »

Hello,
I"m sure this has been addressed but I can't find an exact answer by searching.
I want to upgrade my Kronos to X and I'm trying to figure out how.
I called Korg Tech Support and they said they don't have an SSD yet because they are still testing out which works best.
I know many members have already installed an SSD.
Sharp, you have right? Which model did you use that works?
Also, about size. What size should I get?
Any help on this subject is much appreciated!
Thanks everyone for your patience in answering this question again! :)

Yep.....
OCZ Agility 3
SATA 3
120GB

A number of people bought the same drive as me.

People are using all sorts of different SSD Drives too and I don't know of anyone having problems yet under 2.0

Regards
Sharp.

Great thank you! Korg probably has to say that to cover their butt.
Also, dumb question probably, but I could get a lesser size right? But how would that affect me? Say I got an 80gb or 60gb?
thanks again

Sure, you can get a smaller drive if you want.
But how would that affect me? Say I got an 80gb or 60gb?
Using that along side the factory drive, it's more than enough for most people.

Since I am thinking of installing a second SSD as well as increasing the RAM, does it make sense to transfer all my data that currently exists on my stock SSD to the new one as back up? I don't have a computer in my studio so backing data up involves a memory stick. Easy as pie but I'm lazy.

Also, is there any risk to my data during the install of the new SSD + RAM?

Of course I'd be doing this with the power disconnected.

I'm wondering this myself. When I held the mouse over the 256GB model I was thinking ... hmmmmm ... for less than twice the price of the 128GB I could put 256GB in there as my second drive, slap some more RAM in while I got her open and be done with it. I would say that with 256GB I'll never run out of room but I recall saying that when I paid $700 for my first 20MB hard drive back in 84-85. So I won't say it. lol

There's no real need to transfer the data.
You can simply start working with the new drive from now one, even when installing new EXs libraries, just install them to the second drive.

If you do want to move files, the KRONOS has a COPY function that can move files from one drive to the other. No meed for a memory stick.
Also, is there any risk to my data during the install of the new SSD + RAM?
No, not unless you damage something.
Also have a read of this.

Google ... "make + Model high failure rate" and you will get a a lot of hits no matter what make or model it is.

I even found some charts that showed HHD's to be a lot worse at failing vs SSD.

Not sure what to make of it all, but it seems everyone has an opinion and a favourite.

Always smart to have a backup no matter what you use too.

I was referring to the Amazon product reviews. 50% bad, 50% good.

reading that data and info is enough for me to look for more reliable brands. If another brand costs more, thats ok. I am looking for more reliability.

I guess the big question here then is, "Has anyone had a failure from their second SSD yet?"

I'd also like to know what the recommended drive is?
