Not Enough Memory
I just downloaded LAC-1, MOD-7 and EXs3 on my Korg OASYS 88. I couldn't figure out why EXs3 said there wasn't enough memory. I researched on korguser.net and discovered it requires 1.25GB. I have already installed it, so I am thinking that everything is there, but there just isn't enough memory to execute. So all I need to do is upgrade my memory to 2GB. Am I correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Well there is 314MB "ROM" loaded into RAM automatically at startup, and optionally-loaded 313MB EXs1 "ROM Expansion" and with 503MB EXs2 "Concert piano, and with the BRASS EXs3 expanion - which takes over 700 megs, thart would use about 1.83 Gigs. So you need 2 gigs to use it, but if you unload (say) the EX piano, you will be able to load it in.

Hi,
it is a good decision to have more memory, but it should also work without if you uncheck the other expansions.... do you have samples loaded in your memory? Then there could be not enough space? Try to go to the sampling page and clear the samples/multisamples, then there should be enough space.
best regards

I do not have samples loaded in my memory. I did uncheck EXs1 and EXs2 and checked EXs3. I got a message telling me there wasn't enough memory to execute. Thanks for your help.

Hi,Kevin Nolan wrote:Just upgrade to 2GB RAM - it's extremely cheap, easy to do (take end panels off OASYS, lift the control panel and insert the RAM). It solves all problems and allows for all libraries to load, with room to spare.
Kevin.
I found the correct RAM module I need to increase my memory to 2GB. I sent a query on karma-labs.com and Stephen Kay replied and he told me all I needed to do was install 1GB of memory and it would work. I am glad you told me it was easy to do. I am looking forward to the increased memory. Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
Peggy

Hi Peggy -
Great! You won't know the difference when you install it - having all those libraries instantly available greatly enhances the scope and capabilities of the OASYS.
There are full instructions on how to open the OASYS starting on page 1090 of the latest version of the Parameter Guide, and specific instructions on installing extra RAM on page 1092.
While the process is genuinely straight forward, just a few notes if you've never opened the OSYS before:
1. Get a good, new Phillips screw driver to take the screws of the end panels off. I always place the screws carefully down somewhere close by symmetrically arranged so that the same screw goes back in the same hole when putting the end panels back on
2. I always put the OASYS on a large table of counter. I then place several pillows behind it, so that when the control panel swings back, it is gently resting / supported by the pillows - makes all the difference in doing the job.
3. The RAM instalment is straight forward, and follow the instructions on page 1092. There’s a small piece of aluminium to unscrew and then the RAM simply clicks into the available slot. You slot the RAM DIMM in at a slight angle and then gently push the DIMM to a vertical position until you feel / hear it 'click' into position. I always then give the DIMM a gentle press gently downwards on its top edge to be sure it's well seated.
The key is to give yourself a good hour to do it - so as not to be rushing yourself (it won't take an hour!) and be fully prepared - OASYS well placed on a large flat surface, pillows and screwdriver all available.
You can get the latest version of the Parameter guide on www.korguser.net

Good advice there Kevin. Just one other thing to remember. Make sure you lower the touch screen before you open the case as the last thing you want is to have the top slip back and knock that.
But as Kevin says it really is quite straight forward. But if you really feel like it is too much for you then wait and ask a freind who you can trust and who is comfortable with simple techhy stuff like that.
Best of luck and I am sure you will get it sorted without any problems.
Cheers.

Hi Kevin,
I do appreciate all of the valuable info you have given me. I will definitely look in the Parameter Guide for full details. I don't expect it to be too hard to do, but I want to get it right the first time. Thanks a million!!

I am confident that I can do this. I will take my time and make sure my OASYS is supported and cushioned, so it will not get damaged. I will remember to put the touch screen down, too. I am glad you pointed that out to me. I am looking forward to this endeavor and the rewards that follow. Thanks so much!!
