Hello all.
Hope your all doing fine & never stop Rocking! ")
I am interested in buying a Korg Keyboard, the USB NanoKey.
Hope that is enough info it seems there are multi types of Nanos? Pads & controllers, I think.
I'm wanting the one with the 25 big keys.
If money weren't so darn tight these days I'd have one in hand now but since I already have a keyboard I need to decide if this purchase would be right for me, aside from making music that is, which I know she'll do.
Aside from making music... I have an app, (non music), that I can assign Keybinds to.
I can use my computers keyboard & a usb key pad as well to assign custom key strokes or keybinds to do complicated tasks.
Can this be used to activate those key binds/strokes?
Do I need any additional software? Midi? Or does it come with this capability?
I'm an old school-er & know pretty much nothing about Midi and the computer end of Music technology.
Mostly I will be using a Mac, running 10.4 but also frequent a PC running Win7.
Thanks for any and all replies.
Have a Great Day

Hello and welcome to the forum. If I understand well, you want to use a nanokeys or a nanopad as a controller for games. I'm afraid that will not be possible, from what i know of. These two pieces of hardware are MIDI controllers. They transmit MIDI messages to DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) and VSTi (Virtual Instruments) but can't be assigned to keybinds or any other kind of use that doesn't involve a MIDI interface. In fact, the driver you install on the computer is actually a virtual MIDI port.
If you want to play music, you'll be much better suited with a full sized key's midi controller. In the case of the nanoKEYS, is pretty much useless to play music, unless is just a few chords here and there, but the keys being so small and the awkward key spacing make it very uncomfortable to use as a standard keyboard.
There are many budget midi controllers out there at many price ranges. Still they will transmit MIDI messages only.
Having said all that, I just stumbled with this thread that might be of help to you: http://www.cycling74.com/forums/topic.php?id=15623
Cheers

Many Thanks
Howd you know I was thinking Gaming?
Yes I may have to hold off on this & from your reply seems it wouldn't even be a decent alternative for a mini semi key Piano. Was just reading some more on that to. Might stick with my current piano it has Midi but I got it 2nd hand and have no cables or software.
But that link very interesting stuff!
Answered some questions & sparked some new ideas.

Hmmm
Never thought of that. ")
Thanks again.

Bome's MIDI Translator can easily convert MIDI data to keystrokes. Make a Bome's preset to go along with your keyboard and you're good to go.
Keyboard Rig: Korg Kronos, Moog Sub 37, Waldorf Blofeld Module, Neo Instruments Ventilator II, Moog MiniFooger Delay, Strymon BigSky, Roland KC-150, Mackie 802-VLZ4 Mixer
