There is a slight delay. Most on the combis, but also some on changing patches. There are some threads on the forum on how you can make the changes seem less obvious.

It's harder without the foot controller, but you can also use a setup where you use different banks for combis used in the same song. Then you use A1,B1,C1 and D1 for the different sounds. Then you can switch with only one keypress. Another option is to assign a simple footswitch to the switch socket at the rear and configure the M50 to do combi up for each press.

But I do admit that things were a lot easier before with my Roland XP-50, where I could lock the num pad and use the keys 1-9 for different patches. In fact, the only reason I got the FCB1010 was to be able to choose 10 patches with only one click (foot or finger).

Make the changes in time with the music. Make the combi change a 1/4 or an 1/8 before the point where you need the new sound. When I play sustaining sounds, I try to make sure not too much sound is playing at the change point, making the sound cut less obvious.

I feel that the hassle of actually changing to a new sound is a far bigger problem than the sound gap between the changes.

it's definitely true in case of m50, it was a lot easier with my previous triton le.

most of the tracks i play are of very fast tempo, and have to continuously change sounds.

wondering was it a mistake to buy m50?

There's a thread relating to the (somewhat similar) TR and Triton LE here:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... sc&start=0

There's also a thread relating to the M50 but I can't find that right now.

The key trick here is to program your own combinations or use SEQ mode as 'scenes' or 'songs', making best use of splitting and multiple controller keyboards...

Often there is a lot in a combi that you are not using, or not using the whole scale of the keyboard. or at least elements that can be sacrificed for live purposes....
