I'm trying to create the sound of Rush's Tom Sawyer bass synth but I'm finding myself doing a lot of trial and error because I have no formal training in sound theory or design. I mean, I have a basic understanding what an oscilator does, but I'm clueless on pretty much anything else, like LFOs and the sort.
Do you recommend any good reading on this? A tutorial video using at least a Triton, which pretty much resembles the M50 interface, would be preferable.
Many thanks

I've heard good things about Dave Polich's "Sound Advice" DVD set. If you want a solid foundation for creating many kinds of sounds, it's worth considering. I believe the screen shots are of the Motif ES, but most of the parameters should translate to other synths such as the M3.

I found this article:
http://www.rainycitynights.com/band/rus ... rgrowl.htm
But I've still found it challenging with my new M50. Reading and getting familiar with all of the terms and settings has been helpful, but it will be a slow process--fortunately fun as well.

Re: Sound Design
Wow, cool!!! Will read it fully tomorrow. I found a program which resembles very closely the Growl. I tweaked it a bit but still is not exactly the same. I'd love to do it from scratch myself.Zacklur wrote:I found this article:
