EMX + MICROKORG HELP
Hey everyone, im new on here.
I have a microkorg, emx, kp3, es-1 and es-1 mk2.
The singer of a band that i like uses a microkorg and emx.
He has the two connected by a midi cable (i think)
When he is playing live though, he moves the knobs on the microkorg and it changes the synths sound on the emx.
How do i do this?
Also, if anyone could explain 'midi' to me, i would be very grateful
Please help me out guys
Cheers x

What have you tried? Midi cables are cheap. You've already got 5 pieces of midi capable gear.
I think it's better to tell you to try it for yourself than to tell you how. You aren't going to break anything by trying. Try with just the MicroKorg, EMX-1 and just one midi cable. You also have access to all the manuals or you can download them, so looking up midi in the index might be a good step in preparation.
Midi isn't audio. It is control infomation about what's happening on the gear. When you twist a knob, that generates midi events that describe what you do. That information can control other gear, if it uses the same control information for the same operation. Korg uses similiar midi data between their products, so no conversion is needed in many cases. That's why the MicroKorg midi can control the EMX parameters when they are hooked together. Now all you need to do is try.

i think people are a little reticent to help when it comes to information that is so readily available to you. xmlguy gave you some good advice. you either own the manuals or can download them from Korg for free, and these manuals contain all the information you need to configure your gear the way you want it. not only will reading them help you do what you're asking, but a bunch more. seriously, read up. good luck!

this also could have been gleaned from the manuals, but yes, it's a starting point, i suppose.xmlguy wrote:To do what you describe - using the MK to control the sound of the EMX - you need the MK midi out to go to the EMX midi in. You have it hooked up backwards.
