Electribe mx new user!
I recently brought an electribe mx ( without a manual) and all i seem to be able to do is record or edit the preset patterns. When i try and record my own beat, press write, then stop, then press play, it just plays the preset pattern again.
when i look at videos on youtube people just seem to be altering the presets with fx making it look like they've created there own music when they haven't, so How do i actually write my own track from scratch cos i hate the preset patterns and want to make my own type of track, overlaying sounds as i go!

did you try to go to www.korg.com , download the manual, read page 64 and 75? I don't think the videos you've seen are people tweaking the presets, the EMX/ESX are so easy to use and intuitive, you can make your own music (like in the videos) in no time. but read the manual first

Yeah, you have to turn off 'write protect'. Write protect keeps from erasing your patterns on accident, but I just leave it off. (see manual on how to do this)popcorn warlord wrote:I recently brought an electribe mx ( without a manual) and all i seem to be able to do is record or edit the preset patterns. As for making your own pattern just go to d-35 and higher. Those are all blank (there is just a bass drum hit on 4 beats) The 5 synth parts are all just one default sound. Now you can save those where ever you want (ie over the presets)
If people on YouTube 'are' altering presets I think thats just fine. First, it's a great way to learn. You can see how some more advanced things work like 'motion sequence', 2 they're your patterns.. that's part of the $500 bucks you paid and it says somewhere (manual or Korg) they belong to you and are completely royalty free, but also it can just be fun to mess around with when you bored and see how far from the preset you can get.
It's funny how people will just DL a bunch of loops from the internet and just throw them in some software and be all cool about 'what' they created.
Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd have to just shove them together.

a bit off topic, but why would anyone pay $500 just to have a machine with pre-recorded sequences instead of making your own? sure, they are royalty free, but come on, how much satisfaction do you get from showing off something you didn't even make yourself? that's like playing your favourite CD and bragging about how great it is and how cool you are to discover that cd...AmigaHeretic wrote:Yeah, you have to turn off 'write protect'. I guess the same reason half the music out there seems to be "loops" download and stuck together in software??
Using a prerecorded sequence to learn your Electribe, as I already said, can be a very valuable learning tool. And fun to mess around with.
I don't know why people buy 'bagged salad' and then add tomatoes and carrots when they could just make the whole salad from scratch.

You ever see people in markets demonstrating a product and it looks soooo easy and when you try it at home, you can't even slice a carrot with it, and you get pissed and you wanna go buy that BAGGED salad???popcorn warlord wrote:I recently brought an electribe mx ( without a manual) and all i seem to be able to do is record or edit the preset patterns. Don't! Make your own

Don't! Make your own
That's why I only buy sampling keyboards. I like to sample all 88 keys from my piano that I built with my own bare hands! I hate it when people use the 'free default' sounds that come with the keyboards or sample from a piano 'someone else' made. Cheezy!
But seriously bagged salad is sooo much easier and it tastes the same.
