New M3!!!

Post by BillW »

I just bought a new M3-61 (sold my M3-73 back in July). My Radias board should arrive tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I think I might have to exchange my keyboard already. A couple of the pads don't trigger correctly (#2 and #3). Bummer...

Oh dear.

Even with the amazing expanded expansion, the hardware still seems to suck.

Nevermind, hope the next one is better.

Please perform the "calibrate pads" procedure explained on page 399 of the parameter guide for M3 Expanded. It may solve the problem very quickly for you.

D'oh! Great idea...thanks for the tip. I just saw a post elsewhere making that recommendation to someone else and it didn't even occur to me to try it. I'll do that tonight.

Good luck!
Congratulations on the M3, even if it is your 2nd.

Hi Bill,

Assuming (my guess) that it's the V2 upgrade and all the new sounds that have persuaded you to get another M3, then you may like also to order an EXB-M256 RAM expansion card. You will need the extra RAM if you want all four of the new sample sets from Korg to be accessible at the same time.

You will also need a USB flash drive of at least 1 Gbyte capacity to leave plugged in the M3 all the time. It will be needed to hold the new samples, and they have to be loaded from USB flash drive into the EXB-M256 each time you turn the M3 on. It takes only 2 minutes to load everything.

Also when you perform the V2 Expanded upgrade, and add all the extra programs and combis, there are two step by step guides here that you should print out. It certainly helped me to write this down before I did my own upgrade:

Please page rank the Wiki articles if you find them useful?

Rob,

Thanks for the information...much appreciated. I did the V2 update as soon as I got the M3 home. I will eventually order the upgraded RAM, but I'm not a brass guy so I'm not using the new expansions (outside of the piano). By the way, recalibrating the pads has fixed the problem I mentioned ealier...thanks for that excellent suggestion. My M3 is now perfect!

Bill

Ha, I just realized I have two IDs on this forum, bdub and BillW. That must have been a mistake I made somewhere along the line.

Well, as long as bdub and billw don't start responding to each other, I think we're ok!

If I may beg your indulgence for a couple of EXB-Radias questions:

#1) When I installed the EXB-Radias into my m3-73 early in 2008, I had to run a special update for the EXB-Radias board (to v2 I think). Is that no longer necessary? I don't see that update on Korg's site.

#2) There was much talk about Korg releasing new patches for the EXB-Radias (from the MS-2000/microKORG/R3/etc). Were those ever made available? I downloaded a Radias V2 sounds file from Korg this morning, is that the update I'm looking for?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

The first Wiki article I referred you to explains all about the EXB-Radias software updates and Combis. Unfortunately Korg have been updating their web site so I expect all the links to the downloads are broken and I will have to fix them at some point.

Thanks Rob, I will check the Wiki again for Radias content. I found the Radias V2 update on the Korg UK website.

Dave's response to my similar problem:

The reason I ask is that several people have found issues with the pads when they first get their M3's which can all be solved simply by running a pad calibration function (Global P0, drop down menu, Pads Calibration).

I did what Dave suggested, above...
It solved my problem, but please don't make the bumbling mistake that I made by pressing softly on one pad at a time and then pressing "done".

Press softly on all 8 pads first, then press "done" and your problem will probably be solved.

The EXB Radias upgrade software is once again posted at www.korg.com. I will amend the links on the Wiki article later. The first link is the upgrade to the EXB-Radias for use AFTER you have upgraded the M3 to V2 Expanded.

http://www.korg.com/uploads/Download/EX ... 890000.zip

These are the EXB-Radias sounds and combis for use after performing the software upgrade:

Rob
