MIDI SysEx always transmitting
Hi!
I was recording a little piece with my M3 on the PC using the standard MIDI cable to the Traveler on Sonar under Windows.
As I plugged M3 MIDI out into Traveler MIDI in, the activity led on the front panel started to light fixed (not blinking)...
I really didn't know what kind of MIDI data the M3 was sending, as I wasn't playing nothing!
I armed for recording a new MIDI track on Sonar, pressed the Rec button, and I saw that the M3 was sending out SysEx data recorded in Sonar.
Anyone can explain me taht, please?
Is it possibile to disable it?
Thanks a lot,
regards

Sorry for the stupid question: but what is the difference?
Sonar is diplaying these messages naming them as "SysEx message".
Maybe it's not timing info, as in the global page, under the Synch section, I choose "internal", so maybe it's not transmitting any time code or midi synch messages...
But maybe I'm wrong...

The Korg sends out a lot of info. Sysex messages are midi messages especially for your M3 (system exclusive! ergo sysex). Normally you would not shut that off. If you don't want to record it, you can filter that in Sonar, but why would you.Diego wrote:Sorry for the stupid question: but what is the difference?

You will also see a lot of control change messages when you use Karma. Very important not to filter them out.
As for the timing/syncing.. You set your Korg to internal sync. That means the M3 controls the tempo, not Sonar. At this point the M3 actually DOES transmit MIDI clock! You need to set Sonar to external this way.
If you want the M3 to follow Sonar, so Sonar gives the tempo, you need to setup the M3 to external. That way it listens to an incoming midi clock and doesn't send his own. Little confusing, I know..

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your post, it's been clear, but what I don't understand is how I could stop this continous SysEx transmitting while doing nothing on the M3...
There is no reason, it's not sending out the MIDI clock, or anything else Karma related...
Thanks,

I just checked my M3, the only thing it is transmitting while idle is midi clock. You can check with Midi-ox http://www.midiox.com/. It's a great freeware tool, that lets you monitor and manipulate midi data/inputs/outputs. Make sure all filtering is off.Diego wrote:Hi!

Wow, thanks a lot for taking the time to check and to write me that link.
As I'll arrive at home I'll give it a try and let you know.
Thanks again,
