mini kp as external device issue

Post by Damij »

hi i looked around on google and here trying to find an answer to this and if i overlooked it then i apologize but i'm at the point of frustration and need some help.

i got the mini kp about a week ago and am absolutely amazed with the quality of the effects but i have a serious issue whenever i try to use it as an external processor.

i have tried both TS/dual RCA and TSR/dual RCA insert cables from the aux send to the mini kp then dual RCA/dual TS through the aux return of my mixer and no matter what i've tried i keep have the same problem.

the signal is always a combination of the effected signal combined with the original unprocessed signal, so it makes using a majority of the effects impossible since the original signal can be plainly heard

what i'm really trying to figure out is if it's just a shortcoming of the mini kp or if i am using the wrong cables or maybe even the wrong type of mixer.

here's my current setup

alesis multimix 6 fx with a studio mic on channel 1, guitar on channel 2, mc-808 on channel 3/4 and EMX on channel 5/6 then with the mini kp ran from the single aux send to the stereo aux return.

i have the aux return level all the way right (wet) and the appropriate buttons pressed on the mixer to allocate the onboard or external effects and also have the aux post level on the appropriate channels to full right (wet)

any and all help is appreciated as i'm dying to get this going :D

thanks!

dont think of those as wet dry knobs

they are level knobs

if the aux send is prefader

turn the fader down all the way and then play something and effect it

the effect will be there with out the dry

if the send is post faders you have to send the return from the minikp to a channel on the board and put that in your B mix and everything Effected in your A mix

that way when you want effects you can crossfade over

ok cool

so basically i need a new mixer i guess

the one i have is post fader and without any ability to do A/B or crossfade

that would be a whole lot less frustrating than what all i've been trying to do lol

thanks zalo, this information is very much appreciated

:D

There is a simple solution to this problem. Don't use the Mini-KP in your mixer's effects loop return. Connect the main L/R output of the mixer to the Mini-KP input, and then use the Mini-KP output as your main L/R.

thanks xmlguy!

i think i've just been too close to the problem to see the solution but now that i'm learning there are other options it has really calmed me down a lot and started the creative juices flowing again

the only problem is that putting in after the main outs its going to effect everything

i personally would invest in a better mixer with a crossfader

that way you can pick and choose what will be effected

for example i like to just effect the emx and leave the vocals and esx uneffected but later on it will switch to just effecting the vocals

that's pretty much what i've been wanting to do

i'd like to be able to choose what is effected and when

so any advice on a good mixer? something that's reasonably priced but not toy-level cheap

i suppose you are aware of the fact that the minikp has a setting that allows it to be used either as a send or insert effect. just hold together MEMORY A and MEMORY B buttons and then twist the BPM knob to choose between the two modes.

yep

i think really it's just because of how my mixer handles the signal...well that or how i handle my mixer lol
