I prefer the S900 vs Pa500 or PA800 or juno stage

Post by lancylds »

Dear Genius Musicians
I want a small help from the maestros of music i wanna sole heartily buy the s900 but the vendors have confused me a lot by showing me the pa500
only difference is the harmoniser (vocoder)
please help me to decide guys as i'm an ex musician who was used to use psr 630 and korg n364 together on stage ad psr's piano strings trumpet and ease of use for live performances was absolutely great but 11 yrs now no touch with todays technology
so gurus please help me
i would appreciate your valuable advice and would really follow it as the times when i used to play comps where never used on stage and everything used to depend on the k/bs sequencer so guys please help me
as far as my evaluation goes it obviously rates yamaha s900 #1 but guys please i need an extra advice as indian salesmen are really confusing
sorry webmasters if this is an wrong section to post this query
but if you guys vote yamaha i would be glad that you also respect yamaha a lot in terms of
their r&d and the down to earth prices
i know one thing the psr s series sound engine is something that no one has

Bad News for Indian S Series Fans so look towards korg now

Post by lancylds »

I Came to know yesterday in india the prices of PSR S900 has gone up which really shattered my dreams of owning a k/b again
(Rs. 30000 have gone up USD$ = Rs 45)

but do think s900 for $2000 odd is worth it
wont people think of a pa500 and for the harmoniser a tc-helicon harmony m voice processor which is $299
even if this bundle doesnt come near to the $2000 mark
and the number of styles + voices are more in the korg
can anyone tell me of some websites from where i can get a psr s900 shipped to india
as i dont wanna buy a s900 from india now
please help guys

Well, asking a user group of Korg musicians whether you should buy a Yamaha arranger keyboard is hardly going to result in a strong vote for the opposition is it?

At the end of the day, go to a number of keyboard shops, play the keyboards, find the one you like the best, buy it and be happy.

Among the list of keyboards to try, take a look at the Korg M50 (just released). This might be the best buy for you at the moment. The Pa500 is also a great bargain if you want a professional arranger with a huge sound repertoire and a good keyboard. The Pa588 would be the choice if you want to develop your own ability as a pianist, due to the 88 weighted keys.

Forgive me for saying that the PSR S900 is a bit of a toy with little potential for development of the owner's playing or composing ability.

Hi

I already have an S900 - it's great fun with some nice features.

My true personal comparison (I have PA1Xpro and PA2Xpro also):-
Yamaha S900 is a high quality home keyboard whereas the Korgs are more professional and authentic (particularly the styles.)

The Korg Style structure does not begin to compare with the Yamaha - Korg is so far advanced..
Chord fingering options are not as flexible as Korg.
S900 styles have nice intros and endings but poor substance in the variations - sometimes hard to figure any differences between the variations.
S900 superarticulation voices are very nice but it looks like the new Korg OS (released today for delivery in November) has knocked that on the head.
S900 - no aftertouch
S900 for performing and convenience of selecting sounds/styles/songs is not as comfortable as the Korg
...and so on...

I could go on listing the differences but I think you can clearly identify these in the down-loadable documentation for both instruments.

I have owned quite a few Yamahas over the years, but the Korg i-series (i3, i2) revolutionized the arranger keyboards and I personally do not think any other manufacturer has come close since then.

This is only my opinion, and I would strongly recommend that you go play BOTH keyboards (as Rob has already suggested) before you make your final decision. Make sure the keyboard you are testing does everything YOU need for YOUR playing styles and performing etc...

If you want to perform, I think the S900 would be a far less suitable choice, although usable.

None of my comments are "digs" at Yamaha - remember - I have an S900 - I enjoy it very much - but I LOVE the Korg!!!

Also, as Rob mentioned, we will tend to be biased on a "Korg" forum. Get onto the S900 forum and pose the same question there. Hopefully you will end up with a good balance of opinions. http://www.yamahapkowner.com

All the best

Pete :D

Mr Rob Sherratt I was in favour of yamaha only bcoz of the price and thats it if i explain u about my self i used to use a n364 in my school days and college days but since i grew up and today i'm a computer professional hardly had time to think about music. in india a middle class person can think about his dreams only after hes thirty with kids wife and once hes started living in his own house
so i've achived the former part and now i wanna rock back
but u know even budget is the concern i loved korg always n364 specially it was a master piece those days and it was cheaper when roland also was very power full in india (xp50 jv35 etc etc)
but party bands used to have yamahas psr 630 and the technics etc etc
but stage performers like me always used n364 it was a craze in india
i tell u if korg releases a new edition of n364 used to look simple but powerful people would really buy it
so back to my story i used to have my own psr 630 on the stage also but not for recording all my recording used to be there in the n364
so even me a korg fan but i was disappointed with korg bcoz see the world is chaging today
b4the psr s900 was rs 61000 in india with a harmoniser and nothing great with than the pa500
and when korg released pa800 a neck to neck for psr s900 they priced it above rs 158000 in india
so i thought son lets settle down with a yamaha
but god yamaha cheated my feelings its raised the prices for rs 30000 on the k/b which i dont think its even worth it
i have many professional keyboardists here who use korg and roland b ut not yamahas
so wanted to know the trend outside india
sorry if i have hurt ur sentiments i never meant that
but only wanted to express feelings about yamahas very odd decision about raising the prices

Lancylds,

You haven't hurt my feelings. Why would you think that?

So what more can I add beyond what I already said? Have you found out about the new M50, released only yesterday? Have you tried both a Pa500 and the S900? How does the price compare in India?

I would suggest for you to find a general arranger keyboard and post a similar question or simply search for one that has been posted before. You see...in my opinion ...and I own a yammie psr2000 and just received a Pa2x ....Korg seems more complex and to my taste ...more enjoyable on the long run . I tried the Tyros and PSR S900 at the store and , I think those are great . But then I simply couldn't resist what the PA2x pro had to offer ...so I got me one!. So consider googling very decent and corteous site like the Synthzone or Arranger Keyboard. There are many friendly people there with different points of view in arranger keyboards that overall will lead you to form your own opinion on the subject. I know I did.
Best of luck!
