NEED HELP ON HOW TO USE TEX SAMPLER
Hi all
just joined
Very happy with my tex, but I am new to sampling and want step by step instructions on how to load and use a CD rom with akai samples on it. I have bought Propeller Islands Legendary M400 Mellotron CD rom for akai S1000 to S3200. I specially bought a DVD tutorial frm USA which was useless because it was for triton studio aswell and the guy just inserted an akai floppy into the keyboard which the extreme doesnt have. I dont have a CD burner and I dont want to have to buy one either. Im assuming you have to put the Cd rom into my PC then somehow transfer via USB cable into the extreme sampler but I could use simple instructions please!
Obviously I have compact flashdrive inserted and I have also maxxed out the RAM to 96mb which it sounds like Im going to need as some of the mellotron samples are 20mb each! I dont think Im going to be able to load all in! Also how to then play and record the sampler on the whole keyboard into a PC running cubase.
Help needed and appreciated

Hi.
So really the best option for you is to buy a cheap CD-ROM drive and connect it straight to your Triton Extreme. It will be cheaper on you, and the results will be much better than using a conversion software on the PC.
Regards.
Sharp.
Your computer won't be able to read the CD on it's own. You would need special software that can read AKAI CD's, and you then need that software to be able to convert AKAI format to KORG.m assuming you have to put the Cd rom into my PC then somehow transfer via USB cable into the extreme sampler but I could use simple instructions please!

arrgh!! This is just what I didnt want. Why do things have to be so complicated? I thought you could put any CD rom in your PC and then do a USB transfer direct to the triton extreme? Has anyone else used a mellotron akai sample CD rom with triton extreme?
All I know is I read in the manual Korg triton extreme sampler can play akai C1000 etc samples so I assumed it would be easier than having to purchase more equipment. Are you saying I have to buy an AKai Cd-rom drive? I dont understand this at all
Can anyone help me with step by step instructions before I sell the CD rom and cut my losses.
Step by step instructions to do what ?.Can anyone help me with step by step instructions before I sell the CD rom and cut my losses
I've already said that to use your PC you needed a special program that also supported converting AKAI to KORG format. If you don't believe me, then insert the CD and try view the files on it

Your choices are very simply.
1: You either buy a CD-ROM drive for your Triton.
OR
2: You buy software for your PC that will allow you to read the disk and convert it to KORG format.
Truthfully, option 1 is by far the best. Not only will it be cheaper, the results will be far better.
No, I'm saying you need a standard USB CD-ROM drive. Are you saying I have to buy an AKai Cd-rom drive?
Surly you know someone with a laptop that has one maybe ?.

forgive me for being thick here but what is the difference between a CD rom drive on a PC and a CD rom drive on a laptop. Or do you mean an external one that connects to a laptop? How much would one cost then and how bulky are they? I just basically want mellotron sounds for my triton extreme sampler and if there another CD-rom out there which will mean I dont have to get more equipment Id prefer to do that.(I have limited space) Ive also already done extensive searching for mellotron sample CD's and there aint many about.Sharp wrote:Step by step instructions to do what ?.Can anyone help me with step by step instructions before I sell the CD rom and cut my losses

Other than size, nothing at all. I'm not referring to that though, I'm referring to an external drive.forgive me for being thick here but what is the difference between a CD rom drive on a PC and a CD rom drive on a laptop.
The only reason I mention laptop users is because everyone has one, and most tend to have external CD-Writers floating around.
You only need the drive once to load the data into the Triton. Once you load it in, you can save it back to your smart media as KORG format data. So... don't spend anything more than a few bucks.
For example, this would be ideal.

make it simple as Sharp said:
buy a dirt cheap CD drive if you don't already have one, any brand will do. then buy a cheap CD enclosure (it comes with a USB cable), you now have a cheapy external cd drive. plug in the power and plug the usb connector to your TEX. you're good to go, all at $30.
I already have one plus an external hard disk.

Im in the UK and on ebay would you say either of these (see links below) are suitable? I notice they are usb powered - also why do I need to purchase an enclosure at additional cost? This is an extra £14 in the UK

Either of those should do the trick.
The only thing I would be worried about is the ability of the Triton to power it off the USB socket.
I see no reason why it would not work as the socket is powered, but I have just never heard of anyone using a drive like this before.
For what they cost... personally I'd take a chance on one of them.

You don't. The 2 you linked are mounted already in external cases.also why do I need to purchase an enclosure at additional cost? This is an extra £14 in the UK

I think they are meant to be powered off a desktop or laptop Pc. I need to get this clear in my head. If they not powered off the triton will there still be another usb socket to connect the triton to the drive so data transfer can happen?Sharp wrote:Either of those should do the trick.

Thanks for this link, however the guy who used the usb key memory uses linux and recommends for mac - I have windows XP and he doesnt know whether it will work or not. Also the partition copying sounds tricky aswell.smstome wrote:http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... t=akai+usb
