Saving modified COMBI's and playin'em live

Post by studioc »

I've just bought a TR61 (to be used live with my group) and was going to apply the same philosophy of my early Ketron X1, i.e. selecting sounds, volumes, effects, split and whatsoever for each of my repertoire's songs and save them somewhere. That's the TR 61 problem: WHERE?

I asked the seller and the importer (and now I'm traying whit the Forum), but hope I've misunderstood them. Is it possible I've to empty one or all the Banks to make room for that purpose? Do I have to loose the original content of the selected Bank? Do I have to make back and forth with a SD card or with the PC every time I want to explore a new Combi, in order to use it for a new song and/or restore the original Bank content?

I'm also afraid that on the SD card only links are saved: thus where can I find the original factory sounds if I mix/erase them?

A lot of thanks for your kind answers (I'm so sure) and sorry for my long bad English; have an Happy New Year.

COMBI mode.
It's basically a FAR more advanced version of what you where used to on the Ketron, in that you can have up to 8 different split points turned on at the same time with a different sound assigned to each one.
Is it possible I've to empty one or all the Banks to make room for that purpose? Do I have to loose the original content of the selected Bank?
You can use the Sequencer and store up to 200 songs / setups there. It offers almost the exact same features as the COMBI mode with the added bonus of being able to use up to 16 sounds and 16 split points at the same time.

Only downside to using the Sequencer like this is that the memory is lost when you turn off the power. So you will need to reload your SNG file from Memory Card each time you turn on the keyboard.
Do I have to make back and forth with a SD card or with the PC every time I want to explore a new Combi, in order to use it for a new song and/or restore the original Bank content?
No, you can listen to sound directly off the memory card by using the OPEN option and navigating to the sounds within the file you have selected.
I'm also afraid that on the SD card only links are saved: thus where can I find the original factory sounds if I mix/erase them?
The factory sounds can be restored from the GLOBAL mode. They are part of the OS and cannot be lost.

Regards.
Sharp.

this has been asked FAR too many times. I recommend you make a sticky to X50 and TR forums and probably others too...

Ok so basicly korg TR/X50 have no Free space in the board (exept for 1 single COmbi and Program - those are acualy for you to program patch from scrap).

you have to overwrite get used to it. BUT the good side is you can reload ANY combi/program TO any combi/program number this means you can overwrite EVERYTHING and still get them back, also if you have a computer you can load any of the saved patches from there - this means you have -unlimited space-, just a warning though the editor is buggy I have got all my sounds deleted 3 times now...

uh yea almost forgot you can reload the presets, preset bank or single preset program /combi to any location by:
1. Go to global mode
2. Press utilty button on your keyboard
3. Press preload data
4. Select what you want to preload.
Now this is what it's like X50 and I belive TR is exacly the same.
