Which sound card ???

Post by chandan »

Hi,

I have a core 2 laptop and I want to use it to record audios.

Could you please suggest me any good and cheap external sound card , could be USB, so I can connect my PA800 and a professional Microphone to it for my recordings.

Thanks

I wont recomend you USB card, they might be cheaper but they suck,
i think the best MONEY/VALUE is E-MU 1212. And its fast, with its own
DSP and stuff, it is really good.

It uses a PCMCIA card, if its the one I think it is..I used to own a PC-Firewire version and I can vouch for the EMU gear as being first-class!!

Hi Chandan,

The key question is "how many simultaneous channels will you want to record at the same time"? If you can live with recording only one "premixed" stereo channel at a time then get a PC sound card. Maybe 40 Euros will do it.

If you want to get the best out of your expensive Microphone and Pa800 and do all your mixing and EFX on the Laptop, then you need a solution that can connect to the Left & Right and Output 1 & 2 audio outputs on the Pa800 (ie 4 audio channels) and record them simultaneously. Maybe 600 Euros will do it.

Best regards,
Rob
