Insert Effects on D12

I am a new user and cannot understand the manual to insert effects to dry recoreded tracks. Is there a source of instruction that is easier to understand especially for a novice.

Can anyone explain the insert chart in the manual for the D12? I've tried several combination but cannot seem to assign effectis to specifc dry tracks. I've also had difficulty trying to pull up all of the available effects.
