Re: Those Motherboard Condensers

Re capacitors: the temperature in the OASYS stays pretty low (around 45 celsius, I believe), so standard electrolytic capacitors should last for a good, long while. I have several synths approaching 20 years of age without having had capacitor failures. - Dan That's good to hear. Let's hope our ...

Those Motherboard Condensers

We should all be concerned with the health of the motherboard in the big O. Unfortunately it is populated with many electrolytic capacitors. These have electrolyte inside and have the unfortunate characteristic of drying out over time which then causes them to cease functioning and hence your ...

Agree, Sharp. Time to put this one to bed. We know you get what you pay for...others need to learn that lesson.

Well, the senior posters are mum.....and they would know......and as usual forbidden to speak of future products. With the abysmal sales of the big O, it should not be a surprise that they discontinue it. We may have on our hands the 21st century Fairlight. :(

This sysex programming at least shows that it is possible. and now we get to spend all our time programming this stuff instead of making music. It still seems that most expeditious way of getting instant program changes is with an external controller and a small keyboard seems to be the way to ...

Wow! Synful Orchestra on the OASYS. Quick! Where's the waiting list? I need to sign up. This would be the ultimate killer combination. Synful sounds, particularly the strings are mindblowing and to my ears compare favorably to many full blown samplers. The huge advantage of the highly efficient ...

That's something for me to try when I get MOD-7....which is high on my wish list.

Thanks for pointing me to Synful--I heard enough good stuff on those demos that for my Sibelius setup, I'll be dumping Garritan Personal Orchestra in favor of Synful.

[The best string sounds I've found are created via physical modeling, but that's different instrument hardware]. Would that be Synful? They use additive sine waves to make some cool strings. I'm very happy with the OASYS and Karo Philharmonic Strings. Like anything, it is how you perform it. I didn ...

That's an idea: but instead of the pricey WX-5, just try a cheap breath controller first. They are easy to connect to the Oasys. I connected up my WX-5 and did indeed get somewhat better articulations. So anything that gets a better sound, is worth trying. Incremental improvements.... [The best ...

I have to agree with Sharp on this. Hip-hop to me is spoken word, not music. By that definition these "artists" are not musicians. To my mind a musician should be producing MUSIC not spoken words. Sure, some of these guys do both, but that's rare. All this goes to show that you can never go broke by ...

The more I think about an OASYS rack design, it comes to mind that the ideal solution is rack mount unit but with a remote control surface. This would be immensely practical. That said, the subset of all this that your idea present here is useful also.

Michele Paciulli is great! Why has Korg been keeping him in the back room all this time? He is great, and can do terrific demos, is highly musical and shows great patches to advantage. Time for Korg to bring Michele up front and feature him more! More Michele.

Got my DVD today, Mike. It's great and you sure covered a lot of ground. If some one sat down and showed me all this, I couldn't remember half of it, as the information content is so rich, but thanks to your DVD, it is easy replay sections and thus provides a great learning tool. Didn't even know ...

. I would love to have a seamless program that enables me to produce musical notation from the MIDI data for my songs in the Oasys. So far, I understand that my options are to use something like Sibelius. Do you have advice or any product like this in the works? Thanks The Sibelius/Oasys combi work ...
