Putting Programs on the R3

So to put programs on the R3, am I able to connect my R3 via midi cable to my fast track pro which hooks up to the usb port on my computer or do I have to buy the midi-usb cable for the synth? If I can use my fast track, do I plug the midi cable into the midi in, thru or out port?

so I have a fast track pro and a midi cable for my R3. Can I transfer programs and use the editor librarian software by hooking my R3 up to the computer with my interface an midi cable or do I have to buy the usb-midi cable?

Recording Korg R3 into Ableton Live

Okay, so can someone help me do this? My M-Audio fast track pro didn't come with a manual but I have my korg R3 hooked up to the front of the interface with a stereo cable hooked up to the R output on the synth. Now, the interface is hooked up to the computer and I'm running ableton 6. Can somebody ...

Can I still record sound then by sending midi data through the fast track pro and into ableton? or does that not work because Midi isn't sound. You see, I was under the impression that ableton could interpret midi data and transfer it into sound.

Did I buy the wrong cable?

Yeah, I bought a midi male to male cable to hook up my korg r3 to the m audio fast track pro to record into ableton live, however there is no sound. Is this because I bought the wrong cable? Was a supposed to buy a cable that hooks up r-l/mono jacks of my R3 to the instrument input of the fast track ...

Electribe Emx-1 capability?

I have been thinking of purchasing an electribe and what I was wondering is if I can use this as a mixer and run songs through it to remix them live for house raves and just to make tracks to upload online. The other reason why I want this machine is because I want to use it to produce sounds to go ...

haha I'm guessing you guys don't like fruity loops? But anyways, what you're saying is that I don't need to buy an interface at all, I just need to have the midi-usb and the software will play through that? What if I am wanting to make songs? I can still record the tracks into music production ...

thank you xml, very helpful.
So with a regular usb-midi cable, I can control sounds in fruity loops? And how does that work, if it is only transferring midi? Does fruity loops convert the midi data to sound?

okay, to xml- I was told I need a midi interface to record the sounds I make on my synth to a program like fruity loops. Basically what I want to do is play a measure on my R3 and record that into fruity loops and loop it to make my own songs and remixes. I also want to hook a mixer or electribe up ...

okay sweet, one more thing though-
can you plug in an external audio source like a radio or an ipod to the R3 and play around with it on the synthesizer like you can with the Microkorg?

yeah, I was thinking of getting the R3 now, after watching and reading more about the microkorg. And think I'll just hook it up to my computer and use software to create music tracks. Doesn't the R3 come with software? and also, does the r3 have ports for pedals? because I saw the microkorg doesn't ...

okay, so the microkorg isn't what I want? And do I really have to buy a pedal to loop and layer tracks? The sythesizer itself can't produce layers? And couldn't I loop and layer tracks with computer software?

Microkorg beginner

I would like to buy the microkorg because it is cheap and it looks like a good synth to start on. Basically what I will use this for is for performing at parties and producing some sounds. So I will probably need to connect it to my computer. Do I buy a midi to usb cable to do this? I also know I ...
