So to put programs on the R3, am I able to connect my R3 via midi cable to my fast track pro which hooks up to the usb port on my computer or do I have to buy the midi-usb cable for the synth? If I can use my fast track, do I plug the midi cable into the midi in, thru or out port?

so I have a fast track pro and a midi cable for my R3. Can I transfer programs and use the editor librarian software by hooking my R3 up to the computer with my interface an midi cable or do I have to buy the usb-midi cable?

Okay, so can someone help me do this? My M-Audio fast track pro didn't come with a manual but I have my korg R3 hooked up to the front of the interface with a stereo cable hooked up to the R output on the synth. Can I still record sound then by sending midi data through the fast track pro and into ableton? or does that not work because Midi isn't sound. You see, I was under the impression that ableton could interpret midi data and transfer it into sound.

Yeah, I bought a midi male to male cable to hook up my korg r3 to the m audio fast track pro to record into ableton live, however there is no sound. Is this because I bought the wrong cable? So with a regular usb-midi cable, I can control sounds in fruity loops? And how does that work, if it is only transferring midi? Does fruity loops convert the midi data to sound?

can you plug in an external audio source like a radio or an ipod to the R3 and play around with it on the synthesizer like you can with the Microkorg?

okay, so the microkorg isn't what I want? And do I really have to buy a pedal to loop and layer tracks? The sythesizer itself can't produce layers? And couldn't I loop and layer tracks with computer software?
