I really like the piano sounds, run them through my mixer where I add reverb and it sounds great.

Ah I see, I wasn't aware that the R3 was so close, size wise, to the XL.

I'm curious then, why is the XL so big? Or is the R3 just great at packing things into the space?

Aye I've done my research but space is a priority for me so I like the idea of the small keyboard.

And if the USB is for Midi only, that means that it doesn't give a specific advantage over the Microkorg non-XL - i.e. to get the same functionality one just needs to buy one of those 15 buck USB ...
