sounds like it could be cheap cables with irregular tips on... slightly too large maybe

cane anyone help me out, i can tune the second oscillator no probs as theres a bloomin "tune" knob... but can the first oscillator be tuned/detuned independantly??

hmm at a guess (since i dont own an R3) there might be a setting in the ARP section that tells the r3 to play the ARP pattern at the correct tempo, might bey something like keysnc: blah blah, if there is set it to timbre or i dunno, just mess about with the settings, unless its still not actually ...
