Thanks for sharing that PDF, I also contacted the Korg Support and see what they suggest. If there is nothing they can do without sending it in for a (costly) service, I will go and check the test modes you suggested. I will report back.

Hi there, out of nowhere my KK stopped booting up. It turns on, "KingKORG" shows on screen, but that's it. I was able to put it into "update mode" and update the firmware to 1.1.3, hoping it would reset something - but no luck. I was able to update to latest firmware, but still the same. It freezes ...
