To make a product available for purchase without publishing an advanced manual?

Why does this seem to happen every time?
We get half the information and half-hearted demos.
Where is the marketing????

Hi Friends:

Although Korg dealer in my country have not confirmed launch date, it has published it's price: U$S 4000.-
Just to see how mad they are, Kronos 2x 88 price is: U$S 3250.-
I know both keyboard have different customers, but IMHO an arranger never must cost higher than - as in this case - the best workstation ever made.-
I don't believe anybody - al least a proffesional musician - will invest such money for PA4x.-
Korg marketer are really mad.-
With regards.
Eduardo

I could understand if Korg Italy made like hundreds of different products. Then, you could argue the technical difficulties, distractions and all, but when you deal with a very focused company that produces only ONE flagship keyboard every 5 to 7 years, you'd expect a little more discipline in ALL areas. Trying to sell a product without proper documentation is simply strange and unfair. I know the keyboard is not available worldwide just yet, but even so their marketing department (?) doesn't seem to be too excited so far! On the other hand, Workstations and Tuners....

Economy of scale, guys...

We like to think we are important, be let's be honest here. Arranger sales are a tiny fraction of workstations and synths until you get down to the cheap 'toy' category. You can hardly expect innovation and cutting edge features on an arranger for the same price as on a WS if it sells only a tiny fraction of the WS's total numbers.

If you make 100,000 of a product, you can sell it for less than a product you only sell 5000 of. Business 101. Why does that all go out the window when it's our arrangers we think of? Twisted Evil

You also discount the extra content an arranger comes with. Creating that isn't cheap! WS's don't come loaded with arps and patterns already set up for complete song performance, at least very few compared with the hundreds and hundreds of complete styles (with Intros, endings etc.) that come included with an arranger. Nor the degree of finalization of the soundsets that arrangers need. WS soundsets aren't carefully balanced so that any sound can be substituted for any other sound (or kit for kit) so there is minimal change to the overall balance. WS soundbanks are often wildly different in sound volume, tone, EQ, you name it. Then there is the DNC stuff, which still hasn't made it (so I hear) to the Kronos line. Matching those samples carefully so that they can be switched to on the fly takes time. Oh, and what about Guitar Mode? Not on the Kronos yet...

Crafting all that takes time. Time is money.

So, you have a product that takes more time and money to create, being sold to a market share that is an order of magnitude smaller than the WS market, then we bitch about how TOTL arrangers shouldn't cost more than TOTL WS's? Shocked

Get real, guys! Rolling Eyes

Hi Dikikeys:

In some way you are right.- But not at all.-
Arranger (any brand), give's you the chance to play any song practically inmediatelly.- But if you want to create a song from "0", the things are barely different.-
I don't own Kronos, first because to go up from my M3 i must put nearly another M3.- But i sure you, when you compose a song with a workstation, you can do everything.- As Kronos becomes the next step from M3, i can tell you that with Karma and chord creation, the posibilities of performing a new song from "0" are infinitly.-
You are right Kronos (in my case M3) does not have DNC or Guitar Mode, but you can emulate both with Karma and deep sound editor included in combi or program mode.- It takes some effort and surelly more hours than working with any arranger.- But finally you'll get the sound you create.-
If what Korg affirms about EDSX sound engine on new PA4X (i doubt about this because poor software edition showed till now on PA SO and no expandable ram), perhaps will see a better product.-
IMHO arrangers were created to solo man band.- If you play (as me) with another musicians (bassist, guitarrist, drum-man), a solid workstation is the right keyboard.-
We must wait till Korg Italy publish it's advance edition manual.-
With regards.
Eduardo
