I have a holiday tradition of re-creating classic 1980s synth-pop records as sardonic Christmas songs, and I've just completed a new one which I thought I'd share: Holly Jolly Monday.

It occurred to me that Burl Ives' version of "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" was, perhaps, a bit overly enthusiastic. Setting the lyrics to New Order's rather gloomy Blue Monday seemed like the obvious solution. If you're a Factory Records aficionado: yes, the color code in the cover graphic is correct.

You can download the song here:

http://www.danphillips.com/songs/Holly_Jolly_Monday.mp3

No samples from the original song were used; all tracks were newly performed. The synths are all from the KRONOS, drums are from Battery, and I played the electric bass lead lines on a real bass guitar.

This and other festive tracks are also on my site, at http://www.danphillips.com/xmas.htm

Happy holidays, everyone!

Ah the memories. New Order are my home time band. The Hacienda, Manchester was the centre of the universe at that time.

Great work, kept true to the music, if not the lyrics Very Happy

Best wishes to you Dan, all at Korg, the Mod's and all the members of the Forum. Very Happy

Great job. Well done! Sound quality is great too, voice sounds great. Overall sound is great; you can hardly tell it is not the original (just by the lyrics!)

Happy Holidays and thanks for all your work.
