I have a Kronos 88, and recently upgraded to OS 1.5.
I seem to have stumbled across a bug. How to reproduce:
1. Start a new sequence (empty, no template)
2. Keep it on channel 1, don't change the sound
3. Press REC/WRITE and the START/STOP
4. Play a tune (I played 15 bars or so)
5. Press START/STOP
6. Press LOCATE

My Kronos now freezes entirely. The Tempo flash is off, and the keyboard does not respond to any key press, or screen touch. It stays frozen.
When I switch off, and start up the Kronos again, everything else acts normal. I reproduced the same freeze three times.

Could this be the result of a bad update? Or is this a bug?

I have no freezes during recording with the sequencer here after updating to 1.5.

Have you tried starting from scratch with an empty song database and a new song?

Yes I did start with a fresh database (no songs loaded).

You must somehow then be hooked to midi somewhere? Is this so?

No Lou. I have nothing attached to the Kronos, except the power cord.

Hmm, all is working as expected here.
Is it the same on all reboots?

Yes, it is exactly the same every time. I will try also with loading an existing sequence and changing it by adding a midi recording.

Bummer. Kronos is supposed to be a self-contained one-stop inspiration creation workstation.

All these reports of freezes, restarts etc leave me wondering if an Atom processor running under Linux is the best foundation for music production and live performance.

I've not had the best luck running music apps under Linux on any platform. All my so-called PCs run various iterations of Linux. I like the Linux open source philosophy. I appreciate that Korg has written code and modded the kernel specifically for their applications, but at the core it's still Linux running on a modestly powered platform.

Hope someone helps you work out a solution.

Let's not start a rant about what processor is in the darn thing.
@Lou: I have tried it another way. First loaded an *.SNG file from the SSD. Everything works fine. It looks like it cannot cope with the empty SNG it starts out with. Also tried it with the demo songs. I can change them. If I wipe them (re-initiate the song), they're fine too.

But, then I restart the Kronos, the "empty" songs do just the same thing. Apparently, I need to load something existing first, and it keeps on working. Trying another song number to start with from scratch does not work either.

It has something to do with the state the songs are in, as they are empty (at least on my Kronos...).

So:
1. Starting from scratch from any song number -> freeze
2. First wiping an (empty) song and then recording -> freeze
3. Loading existing song (*.SNG) and recording a track -> fine
4. Wiping an existing song and recording -> fine

Let's hope Dan can jump in here. This is puzzling. Hope you get it resolved.

rricky,

I have never yet to this day had to reboot or froze up. There really aren't as many as you say with problems.

Same here, never had a freeze, only when leaving an USB stick while booting but there's a very easy workaround for it. I don't think the Atom is the problem.

I think I have found the cause for the issue:

1. Under the previous OS, I had saved my own *.KSC file and put it on AUTOLOAD
2. Once I removed the *.KSC from the autoload menu, and rebooted the Kronos, I could normally do a sequence from scratch

It seems that a *.KSC, saved under a previous OS version (1.04) causes issues with the standard load-up of empty sequences. This seems a bit strange, as an AUTOLOAD of *.KSC does not contain song data (something that I would like to have by the way...).
So, maybe songs are not loaded automatically, but the standard definition of the (empty) Sequence (SNG) files are.

Maybe this is an issue that Korg should address (at least in a trouble shooting guide).

I'm actually having problems with some sounds not loading. I'm finding that by auto-loading sequences as well as sounds, I simply don't have enough ram what with the extra vintage keys EXs. Possibly other things as well. This is my first synth with a hard drive and I'm just used to being able to have everything instantly available the second I want it. Such is not the case here. Mind you, I always used to have to boot up other machines in order to do what I pretty much can now with just this one so I guess it's a good tracer off. I just have to get used to the idea of not loading everything at once. At least I've managed to find some: not all: of the sounds I made up. I haven't bothered to look at any threads here but has anybody expanded their RAM yet?
