|
|
Hello,
I'm just curious to know if anyone has made up their mind and decided they'll not be buying the Kronos, and if not, why not? (current availability issues not included )
My main reservation at the moment is the lack of Cue List (discussed elsewhere). I use this feature a lot on the M3 and it'll be a p.i.t.a to try and work without it... Not a complete deal-breaker but significant to me, nevertheless... _________________ CURRENT GEAR: A yellowing Casio PT-80, 4 leaking batteries and some broken headphones.
WISHLIST: A PSU and some different headphones.

it costs too much... even selling my M3, the additional money required to get a Kronos-61 is simply too much for me at the moment |

It's a similar issue I have, however I have an M50 and miss the aftertouch too (and some other items the M3 has which the M50 hasn't) so the upgrade from my second old Korg (Triton Extreme) would justify it a little more. On the other hand, the M50 is not really much money when selling) _________________

1. No full program editing UI in sequencer and combi mode.
2. No drums kit editing in sequencer and combi mode.
3. Not able to change tracks while recording in loop.
4. No real-time audio time stretch.
5. 16 midi tracks, shared among internal and external tracks.
Will wait until OS 2.0 _________________ Roland Fantom-G6 ARX1, Korg M3-m exb-Radias, Korg Z1-18v, Roland MC-808, Roland MC-909, Korg microKontrol. |

And even that potentially won't have what you listed... |

Kronos offers nothing new that I desperately need. In any case I vowed never to buy Korg products again after the Oasys future proof fiasco. |

Just curious....what other keyboard(s) or gear are you thinking of which does allow this? I am always on the hunt for good implementation of this exact feature...but find it rarely. _________________ http://soundcloud.com/ronf-3/sets/ronf-music

I have been interested in the Oasys since it had been released, but it was too expensive for me.
Now I'm really interested in the Kronos, but I have decided to *delay* my buying decision
¤ first, because it's not yet available in France, so I cannot try out one by myself to make my own opinion
¤ then, because for the time being there are 3 points that hold me back:
1. only 2 Gb RAM, about 148 Mb of which are available for the user samples (a member of this forum has found a solution, but I still feel it pathetic that I would have to go buy 4 Gb from a computer store and take a chance by removing the bottom of my Kronos; now that we know the OS can handle more than 2 Gb, Korg should *definitely* provide 4 Gb RAM from factory); this point is all the more so important that the Kronos cannot stream user samples from its SSD (I want to have my sampled Solina String Ensemble and all the registers of my sampled French harpsichord on board, among others!)
2. the small size of the fonts and of the virtual buttons on the touch screen (since I have only seen pics and vids of a Kronos this is a temporary judgment; I will make a final judgment when I have put my eyes and my hands on a real Kronos)
3. the Kronos sequencer is still the same as the Oasys sequencer which has *not* received the updates the M3 had received (piano roll, track view) which make the M3 sequencer a really practical and convenient on-board tool.
All these points can be fixed with an OS update, and if Korg are willing to provide this update I would be happy to have the sonic power of a Kronos in my studio... |

I feel your pain! Personally, I'm waiting to save up the money, because i can't sell anything to pay for it at the moment ... but ya the lack of the cue list, and the lack of the other M3 Xpanded features is a big turn-off for me. I'm hopeful that they'll implement all of this in a patch down the road. Same here tho, not a deal-breaker for me, but i WILL miss it. I'd be happy if they at least included the function found in the 01/W through the N-series workstations in each song to call up another song and either play or stop... but why not implement the WHOLE cue list... it's already in many of their other workstations.
Question ... does the OASYS include the cue list? _________________ Korg Kronos-61, 01/Wfd, SONAR Pro |

I'm still interested but will wait and see until the plug-in editor is released.
I respect what Korg did for the Kronos, but to me it offers nothing new or important, which applies to almost all synths released in the 21st century except a couple synths.
SGX-1: I don't need it. I have a Kawai concert grand piano, a Clavinova, NI Alicia's Keys & Pianoteq.
EP1 & HD1: I don't need them. My Motif and Roland synths w/ expansion boards are all I need as far as romplers & EPs are concerned.
STR-1: I never liked guitars and basses in a synth. I play guitars and basses.
CX-3: I don't need organs.
MOD-7: I have FM8, an FS1R & a DX-11 (I grew up with this DX and know it inside and out).
MS-20 & Poly 6: I already have Korg legacy analog & digital collections.
AL-1: I have an AN1x, my favorite VA synth, and Arturia Analog Lab on my Macbook Pro. |

I'm wondering what you do want in a synth or what you need in a synth? _________________

A great sequencer.. VGA out and on board screen changes function when you switch to external display ...

why not Kronos.
I think Kronos is a wonderful instrument, that combines many synths and sounds into one box..great kudos for that...but.
The distinct benefit of hardware based synths is the tactile and useable user interface....and as a trend knobs, pads, sliders and buttons are on the endangered species list.. Sad to say.
If Kronos supported a mouse, VGA out and the ability to have two or more edit screen open simultaneously then it's UI may start to get somewhat close to that necessary for the capabilities of the sound engine..... But at present working on the Kronos seems to be too close to like working on the computer... And I can do that already.. _________________ Korg PA4X, Nord Stage 3, Virus Ti Polar, Novation Nova II, Yamaha S70XS, MPC-X, TC Helicon Voicelive Rack, KRK VXT8 monitors, 2012 LP Standard, 1999 Am. hardtail Strat, Fender DRRI, Orange AD30HTC, Marshall Vintage Modern, 2 cans and a piece of string... |

I had planned on buying a Kronos until I got my hands on one at Sam Ash. I l just couldn't get passed the screen. The angle, small font and buttons completely put me off. Perhaps I'm accustomed to the screens on the Oasys, M3 and Trinity. I dunno. My eyesight is fine and I can blast my way around an Android phone like nobody's business. But the Kronos screen stopped me dead in my tracks. I hope Korg addresses this somehow because it's an otherwise incredible workstation. _________________ Current Korg Lineup: Kronos 61, Oasys 76 · M3-61/RADIAS · Trinity Plus/HDR · 01/WFD · 01R/W · X3R · M3R · Wavestation EX · Wavestation SR · Triton Rack/MOSS · Z1EX · TR-Rack · Karma · D3200 · iM1 · iWavestation · iMono/Poly
