As with the Access Virus line, and many other keyboard lines, the guts for the Korg Kronos variations are identical inside. It's mainly the case that is different with a different keybed. That reduces production costs. One motherboard. One OS. One production line for the guts.
The RH3 keybed for the 73s and 88s is not even new. Been in production for quite some time.
Why would the 73s and 88s be delayed nearly 3 months behind the 61 key versions? Just looking for a logical explaination... _________________

The bodies are different, you are correct.
If I were manufacturing something with three different bodies and assuming that I would sell out the initial run regardless, I would also do a run of the smallest one first. This way, I could get more units in a shipping container, and also achieve the assembly line efficiencies that go with repeatedly making the same model. _________________ Kronos 61, Kronos2-88, Hammond B3, Baldwin SD-10 |

But the demand is spread almost equally over the 3 models. This is verified by my Sweetwater rep. Korg is leaving the 73 and 88 pre-order'ers to hang for 8 months (jan-sept). That's crazy. Sorry for the rant.. just getting a bit excited to get my 88. _________________

actually, 88's (historically) have always outsold 61's according to my dealer.
And 88's command bigger bucks, too.
Its a mystery to me why Korg let the 88's hang out. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

Are there any 73/88 versions out even in Japan? I've only heard about 61s, period. |

Just my 2 cents,
I'm guessing the earthquake disrupted the manufacturing line, or parts supply, in one way or another. The 61's might have been already in production.
I feel your pain guys....but this is the reality, I'm sure we'll all remember "The Big Wait for Kronos" of 2011, and have stories for a lifetime. Personally, I have never waited for something in my life so bad. |

I am guessing there may be a piano action keybed supply issue.
I believe the 88 Korg M3 was initially delayed also -- i.e. the 61 and 73s came out first, followed by the 88s.
Alternatively, when the OASYS was released, the 88 key version arrived in the U.S. at least one month before the 76 key version. |

I remember Dan saying ( in the oaysys days ) that first they do a manufacturing run on one keyboard, ex 76keys, then they set up the machinery to do the 88keys. Also, i think they run other synths through this same assembly line, eg M50s? As i said, 'i think' they run other keyboards.

thats funny, cause kurzweil released the 88 pc3k8 first, and i want the 76, the pc3k8 has been out for months, so go figure, i guess kurzweil said they'd go the safe route first, and release the 88, that sells better than the 61 from what i've read. |

Good point though.. I haven't heard of anyone reporting on anything but a 61 contrary to Dan's quote about all models for sale in Japan. _________________

he said "on sale", your saying "sold": that's different: we are probably getting a initial feedback about customers' preferences. Me; I started from "no" and I am now considering the 61, wouldn't consider the 88, much less the 73, due to some peculiarities of the Kronos. |

Sometimes I picture the 61 like a Volkswagon Beetle with a Turbine engine in it. Instead of a Leer Jet where the Turbine engine should be.
But, it's just all personal taste. _________________
