So i'm not quire sure what i need. But let me give you a probably kind of long description of my issues and what i have
I currently don't use VST's, i dont think they sound very good, and prefer the sounds in my triton and radias, so I don't know much about "DAWS" and what not. I do use Logic Pro, however only for recording and veryyyyyyyyyyy basic midi playback.
So I compose using guitar pro, and I hate it to death, cause it screws up a lot, very buggy. Thats the problem. if i make a very very simple melody on guitar pro, and export the midi onto my triton, it will do the following
- send VERY weird program changes randomly
- turn off my IFX in the global menu
and this leads me to have to go through allllll the tracks and go to event edit and delete every control change. and since i dont know my CC's by heart, i end up deleting a lot of pitch bend and vibrato info, in the end. Im not happy.
Ive attempted to get guitar pro to just use my triton as a sound source, however everything i click pause it doesnt send a note off message, and i have to make my keyboard run out of polyphony to shut it up.
So my question is: is there such a thing as a program.... that i can load a midi file into.. and edit it? like make it automatically delete all the program change info and SYSEX it sends? i dont care if its a full fledged notation editor, i just need something that can edit a midi file.
halp?
thanks i advanced, if you need any further info ill be happy to provide
oh yeah, and im on mac osx _________________

CUbase LE4 is one of the most complete bundle included for audio cards.
The LE4 version has limitations, but I think that 2 insert/ 4 send effects , 48 audio tracks , 64 midi tracks , 8 vst instruments and up to 24-bit/96 kHz audio resolution is enough for home recording.
Import the midi > if it is in one-track system (midi 0 ) go MIDI> Disolve track by channels.
For erase or other things you can use the part-editor or the functions , or the transform... _________________ Korg M3-61, Korg i40m, Kurzweil SP76 |

Sounds like you already have Logic Pro. Why would you look around for cheap or free applications when you have one of the best DAWs for midi? _________________ Sam

you're overthinking this. Every DAW is little different with each version, but it should take you less than 5 minutes to figure out how to access Pitch Bend, Expression, or what have you.. .You can do this!
First of all, if you recorded a midi track from scratch, if you haven't inserted or played any CC information, then you track shouldn't have just random stuff in there. Everything would be set to default, such as Pan set to the center..etc .
I just searched the Manual for Logic pro online, and instantly came up with topics on "editing midi". As expected, there's multiple ways to access the same information. Looks like "hyper Editor" is one way to go. (chapter 24) _________________ Sam

This is not the case.
If i port over a midi file exported from guitar pro into my triton, you would never believe the weird amount of control changes. _________________

Can you e-mail me one sample of that midi file? What do use to put in notes into "Guitar Pro"? just a midi keyboard? Do you record multi-tracks or only one track at a time? Check your pm for my e-mail address. _________________ Sam

Just use Logic.
Simply import the MIDI file.
The file will simply assign itself to your software synths. Click on the "lists" tab in the right-hand top corner.
Click on a track, and you'll see the corresponding data. Then you can delete prog changes & sys ex etc.......
REALLY easy.
To get it to work with your setup, I would advise setting up an Environment with your rig in there (assigned to your MIDI interface) - if you need help with this, pm me (I'm both Music Tech Lecturer, and Apple Authorised/Accredited).
Then just change the track allocation (re-assign track - hold down "ctrl" and click on the track) - your setup will appear either in the drop down menu or on the right-hand side.
I have slightly over-simplified the process, but in essence it IS that easy.
Hope this helps.
