I bought korg pa1x but it doesnt have ram inside. I put korg triton extreme ram in korg pa1x would it work. is there way we can see in the screen that the ram is working.

Go into SOUND mode
Press "Record" button
Press the "Sampling Info" tab (bottom right on screen)
You will now see the RAM banks and remaining available memory.

thanks i found it aswell it shows the 16mb on sampling menu on ram 2 that means is it working and also i need to buy another 16 mb does it have to be same brand.

Hi,

i advise you to buy 2 compatible - if you mix them up maybe you´ll have some problems and undefined happenings.
1x16MB for PA1X you´ll get for about 40€

I used 2 rams i used for computer before and had some cracking noises in the samples etc.......

Then i bought 2 and everything was fine.

It is simple EDO ram from pentuim 1 computers... just find some and u will see it will work perfect, dont waste money on korg memories... edo ram costs 2-3 euro per module....

I tried to use some computer rams too.

Seems first to work BUT

i had some BUGs (cracking samples.......)

Maybe it work - if you want - try it - if you use it in a professional way maybe it´s better to buy certified products.

I dissagree... its just KORG that sells that stories, 90% of EDO ram modules i tryed, and i tried a lot of them, was working fine, on pa1x, and triton le, an classic.... i have those modules but i dont now how to send them...

and i bought last year over 50 pieces, for a bottle of coca-cola and i gave them all to my friend who have those models which are compatibile with this kind of memory. And only 2 pairs had cracking problems, if i remember it was diferent value in nanoseconds on those pieces....

thanks guys for help i have ordered one more 16mb from korg for 22 pounds
i used triton one its seems working. but i have hard disk do i need mounting bracket for put in the keyboard or without mounting bracket can we put it.
i got old hard disk from computer shop what would you recommend new one or the old hard disk can it cause problems to keyboard.

If u have damaged hard disk it can be causing problems... its better some1 to check that hdd for deffects, or u just could buy IDE-CF ADAPTER - that is way to put compact flash card on ur keybord, which is more resistant to transporting shocks, which can damage ur harddisk... i have one on my pa1x... its in range of price buying new hdd, but i recomend you buy this...

and here u have one of the supliers, but i think u can find it cheaper on ebay

No its same dimensions as 2,5" or 3,5" harddisk, its made to replace original hdd with compact flash chip, this is better because hdd is very sensitive while transporting keyboard, laptop.... i also have this in my laptop... and i have now one in pa1x...

Interesting.... with this change along with a floppy to USB emulator the old Pa1x probably ends up being better than a pa800. (Maybe even a 2x).
When you changed over to the flash memory
1) did you just copy the whole contents of your HD to the Flash drive.
2 ) Did you have to assign a name to the drive exactly the same as the old name?
3) are there any hidden files that are a problem to copy?
4) did it boot up normally the first time... - I would have thought that if the drive was empty the first time you boot up there would be many problems...?
Any info on this would be great.

Well if i say that u are right that its better than pa800, i may sound too subjective... so its on every korg user to make conclusion...

If u want to copy ur hard drive, just copy whole disk into ur computer, with usb cable... ur computer recognize pa1x like a external memory, so its best to do this:
in windows explorer, go to TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/VIEW ... and than check VIEW ALL HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS... than is ur old harddisk ready for copying.

1.When u copy ur hdd into computer, install this new hardware (cf adapter) and power up keyboard... than conect ur pc with pa1x, and copy ur files to pa1x... but be shure to check how big is occupied space in ur hdd... because compact flas disk's are very smaller in comparision to regular hdd... so copy only nececary files to ur keyboard...
Easyest way for copying is to have hdd case for 2,5" disk's... thats the fastest way... because it goes equal speed as usb 2.0 ... and when u copy from and to pa1x.... it goes over usb 1.1 protocol.... very much slower...

2.Dont have to assign anything, keyboard will do everything itself.

3.There is some hidden files, but just do copy/paste thats all u need.

4. There wasnt any problem at first booting up, as i remember... i did this long time ago...

If u have any more worries or doubt's about this job, just ask ill try to tell all i can remember...

What about startup time? Is it quicker after you insall the IDE-CF?

I'm tired by the speed of my Pa1X Pro. It takes ages to boot. On the other hand Korg Extreme is ready almost immediately after you turn it on ;(
