Where does the name come from, any reason as to why it was chosen ?

I can suggest:

Korg Release Outstanding New Original Synthesizer

Hi Francois,

I asked the same question when I got to NAMM, "is Kronos an acronym for something?" And the answer was...

(brace yourself)

"No"

In the very first introductory video, towards the beginning, you can see on the synth, fairly clearly, not "Kronos," but "Chronos" (gotta love this sort of thing). Definitely not an acronym then. Probably chosen initially because it sounded cool. As you may know, "chronos" is the word for "time" in Greek. But then someone probably decided that Korg Kronos was cooler, and the change was made. Go figure...

So long as it's KK and not KKK, I'm OK with that !

Yes, from my days of ancient Greek at school, I knew Χρόνος was the personification of time, but the idea of an acronym was more fun.

Still, somebody must have coined the word at some point during development.

I believe that comes from:
- the keyboard that try to get inside it the most famous korg synth engines (9 of it), like a "time traveler".
But maybe the answear is "No" Wink

I'd say this exercise was done already!

Just re-read the over 98 pages long thread "Korg Kronos?" in the announcement section and you will find many many interpretations of the word KRONOS.

Mmmm, just like the Korg Komponent system or Korg Kaoss (which looks way cooler than Korg Chaos).

Edit: Not to mention Radias which is a word invented by Korg!! Cool

Chronos and Kronos are different guys in Greek Myth.

Here is a summary for your convinience:
Kronos = youngest of the first generation of Titans
Chronos = personification of time

There's more to learn from the Classics (= other thread!), as Ozy and I told you before.

Incorrect.

Chronos (with a "h"), in GREEK mythology, is the personification of time
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronos

This is different than "Cronus" or "Kronos" the leader of the Titans.

Any word from KORG (Dan? Rich?) on the choice of the name of the new workstation?
