When I was viewing some arranger demos last week, here's one I found:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KToQpvfeKz0&feature=related

No offense, but that's the type of music I'd expect to hear from an organ from the 70's or 80's! How many people actually play that type of music today?

Confused

Well, if you go lookin for cheezy music, are you surprised you found it? Smile Some Germans seem to still retain a fondness for polka and other styles that are throwbacks to a prior age. Rolling Eyes

It causes me no great concern that my S900 has polka styles. No style gets played unless you choose it.

Here's a more representative link, in my opinion.

I wouldn't say it is something associated with arrangers.

Laughing The classic arranger sound.
Arrangers of today are able to sound just as good as the best workstations in the right hands, but if people like that are kept in the lime light promoting, no young people will be introduced to Arrangers and the future will be very bleak for them.

Regards.

True, but even the workstations out there today are starting to sound more and more cheesy, with their instamatic musak making Smile

Doubt it will ever happen. Keyboard companies can't operate under one market financialy speaking. They need both Arranger and Workstation/sampler markets.

There might be no choice in order to survive in the future. The Arranger keyboard is marketed at the older gentlemen and for the most part arranger are not used in professional music, or modern music whichever way you want to call it.

Like you don't see Timberland playing a Tyros or anyone else that young kids would aspire to be like.

Also look at the way things are going.

Technics gone.
GEM just about gone.
Ketron ...watch this space because the Audya is like their last hope.
Roland are backing away from the American market with professional arranger keyboards.
Wersi are into "Organs".
CASIO are simply not cool at all and their own name is a death sentence to them at this point.

So that leaves Yamaha and KORG for the rest.

Regards.
Sharp.

How many organs are actually sold per year? I thought that (other than to churches) organ sales pretty much ran dry.

My Grandad used to tour Working mens clubs in the UK,during the early to Mid 80's with Yamaha and Lowrey Organs, and play this sort of music,he still does do the odd Night at the local Labour club, but now uses a Korg I5S module and a Technics double manual organ.

You may call it cheesy, but its still a big hit for the Older generation,You'd be surprised how many couples come and Dance all night, most of which are usually Ballroom type trained.

The Music is not my cup of tea,but without it I dare say,I may have chosen another path had it not been for years of my childhood spent playing on the Organs he owned.

Most of the Big names in the home Organ market have all but vanished like:

Viscount
Eminent
Lowrey
Bandoni
Wersi
Farfisa
Elka
Bontempi

Technics used to be big organ producers at one time,I think they have all but gone to the Arranger market(or stopped totally)

Roland are still making Organs, but would expect in a few years these will be specialist order or even vanish completely from existince.

Yamaha have possibly had an influence over the Arranger market because of their Financial stature,I dare say the majority of the Organ makers could no longer compete with Home keyboards, once Yamaha started making the PSS/PSR models and Others like Casio starting making them so cheap.

I don't think the Oriental/Eastern and Balkan musicians will agree with that. From what i know Arrangers are an essential tool for Middle Eastern/Oriental and Balkan musicians. Samplers are almost non existent there. Ive seen a number of youtube vids and all the keyboards used are arrangers.

Our western music doesn't even call for the use of keyboards except for synth sounds. It's basically all guitars and drums and the occasional use of the piano.

All the companies that no longer exist never has a chance to begin with. Korg and Yamaha have always been providing superb arrangers and they most likely always will.
